I was hauling hay today and heard a speed trap on I-40 mile marker 114 west of El Reno. Had the chopper up gettin em, and sounded like a couple on the ground catchin em. They were getting someone about every 4 minutes. I'm not a cop basher or anything, but this seems rather unnecessary to me, I would think they might have something better to do than set up a trap like that. Canadian and Kingfisher counties get along just fine, and don't make as many stops in a week as these guys made in an hour today.

Well, if you listen to the speeds given, these are not zero-tolerance enforcement actions, many of the speeders are 10 or more miles over the speed limit. In fact, many of the speeders I hear stopped when I'm monitoring one of these operations are in the 90+ MPH range. It's just that warnings by other motorists (CB radios & flashing headlights) or the use of radar detectors makes conventional speed enforcement more difficult and less effective. During this type of operation, by the time the ground units are seen, it's too late. I say more power to them!

Two questions: First, what frequency were they on? Or if on the state TRS (I know, not likely), what TG? Second, are you sure it was a helicopter? Many of these operations use fixed wing AC, which are cheaper per hour to operate.

 If they are traffic cops, chances are they don't have anything better to do cause that is what they get paid for. Second, if you are not speeding then you don't have anything to worry about if they have a chopper up or not.
