There was a fairly decent train accident this morning shortly after 6:00 AM several miles North of Gilcrest at Weld County Road 33 and Highway 85. Both the truck (a cement or VAC type truck) which was reported to have been knocked onto its side and the locomotive have heavy damage. County police, state police and also railroad police are being called to the scene as the driver ran the stop sign.
Everyone self-extricated which is the good news. One of the two occupants (passenger I believe) was taken to NCMC. There is around a 50 gallon diesel leak as well.
In Gilcrest, two miles from the accident, the accident had the sound of a muffled tire explosion. It's rather rare to hear an accident that far away.
