I will have a layover at ATL. Not going to be until May but I am looking to get everything programed or ready to program in with Win96. I was wondering what I should program. Looking at both the Fulton County TRS and the Atlanta TRS. I am mainly interested in listening to public safety. I was wondering what I should program in and what I can pick up from ATL. If someone has a p96 file I could use that would be great. Thanks in advance for everyones help.

You should have plenty of listening just at the airport itself. Program Atlanta TRS (airport PD, fire, and ops), Delta TRS, TSA, other airlines (mostly UHF) and ATC. That'll keep you plenty busy.

If the weather is nice and you have time to leave the terminal and come back in, visit the top level of the South parking deck and watch planes take off and land on Rwys 9/27 L & R and 10/28. They scoff at cameras there, though.

yeah they dont let you watch the planes anymore from the parking deck. you cant even watch them from the roads, they have hidden cameras watching every road that is near the airport, and if you stop and get out, APD or whichever jurisdiction your in will be there in a few minutes to push you along.

but yeah, you should have plenty of traffic just at the airport alone.

If you want to scan, take pictures, just watch, there are a couple real nice places - NOT in APD's territory! The Tradeport office park off of Henry Ford II (In Clayton County) and on West Point Avenue near Wickersham Dr (In College Park). I shoot from both of those locations (depending on which way they are landing), and have never been bothered by the officers there. I actually had a Federal Air Marshall stop by once and told me about both of those places!

You guys must look really suspicious or something cause I was there last month and had 2 APD guys go by and didnt even say a word. I took over 100 pictures that day, it was a great day for spotting.

I got a win96 file if you want it.

It's not APD that seems to care. It's the rent-a-cops that patrol the decks. I was shooed away a month or so ago and since I had nothing better to do, I went to the APD precinct office next to the Marta station and asked about it, and then asked another cop at a crosswalk just to make sure. They have no beef with photography from the south deck. The only violation they could think of was tresspassing since supposedly the decks are privately operated. I have a difficult time beleiving that you could be accused of tresspassing if a) there aren't any "No Tresspassing" signs and b) you are a paying customer just like everyone else.

So I went right back to where I was.

I think I will DEFINITELY give APD a call on that. My last time there it was a pissed off APD officer that was going to turn me over to the FBI! I agree with the "paying customer" bit. I'll gladly pay my buck an hour to park there and shoot! Best thing is if it is raining, you just go to the level below and be covered by the deck above!

You should be able to get a pass from the airport manager's office, I have not done that but I know of others that have for different airports. I think it is like a press pass in a way.

I'm also going to be passing through ATL in about 2 weeks and have been thinking the same thing. But I'm more interested in looking for unidentified stuff. I'll probably be searching the fed bands quite a bit. I think my layover is only for an hour. Are there any LTR systems that need figured out for Atlanta? I'm bringing my Pro-97 w/ it's LTR Repeater Finder function. And I'll have to run Signal Stalker II as well while I'm there.
