Can anyone help a country boy from Montana? Don't answer that!

We will be traveling thru Pennsylvania in two or three weeks and would like to get most active statewide/local frequencies. We will enter the state at Philadelphia and follow I-76 to Valley Forge. Then Hwy 30 to Lancaster. Hwy 283 to Elizabethtown and then Hwy 743 to Hersey . . . my wife won't let me get through Pennsylvania without a stop at Hersey Chocolate.

Back on I-76 / I-70 we'll head for Shanksville Memorial and exit to Wheeling, West Virginia.

I'm not familiar with the counties we will pass through, so if you don't have freqs, I would take a list of counties so I can download from RR.

Using BCD996XT w/ GPS. - If you know of scanner restrictions, please inform. Interested in Police / Fire / Hiway Patrol / Forestry

Time and effort is greatly appreciated

I'll try to put something together for you. You've got quite a trip planned. With the driving you will be doing you won't be in any one place very long. The PA turnpike sounds like the longest drive where one set of freqs will help out. Will you be staying in Philly for any length of time or just going west at 65MPH?

Pennsylvania: Pittsburgh in the west, Philly in the east... And Alabama in between. I love it! Welcome, and enjoy your visit!
Be certain to program 155.460 and 151.415 in to listen all the time. These are two PSP car-to-car channels and where you will find the most interesting comms.

Here are the areas you will be passing thru for the route you mentioned ;
Philadelphia (For some reason I think Phillys services are all encrypted)
Chester County
Lancaster County (33.60 & 33.90 will get you all the county fire and EMS services)
Lebanon
Harrisburg
Dauphin County
York County
Mifflin Country
Huntingdon County
Blair County
Bedford County
Somerset County
Westmoreland County (Need P25 digital scanner)
Allegheny County
Pittsburgh

Turnpike channels are 159.045 and 159.075
Hope this helps.

I don't want to come off sounding like a smart aleck, but I've seen at least five similar messages from you in the forums. I always thought part of the hobby was doing your own research and finding frequencies on your own. I understand you are from Montana, and traveling across the country in regions unfamiliar to you, but would it really be that hard that look at a map, determine the counties you'll be passing through and your route of travel and do your own research rather then have it handed to you?

You're got a great database resource at your fingertips here. Route planning shouldn't be too hard to do at all with a map and Radio Reference at your fingertips.

Have a safe and fun trip!

Don't forget to add 151.490 which is used for traffic control purposes on the Turnpike. It is a PSP air to ground frequency, aircraft do the spotting and pass info to the ground units. When in Philly go to Pat's (after you have seen the Liberty Bell) and have a cheesesteak.....and get some Habersett's Scrapple for supper!

Enjoy the trip!

Fast1eddie- thx for 151.490 correction. I had incorrectly put 151.415 in my reply.

Make sure to use a 186.2 PL on this one as there are industrial users in the philly area.
