I'll be headed up to northern nj in the next couple of days what are some good frequencies and some good talk groups to listen to?

Depending on exactly where in North Jersey you are going you will find that the Jersey City and Newark frequencies are always very active, as well as some of the smaller cities like Elizabeth and Paterson. You can also pick up FDNY and NYPD pretty well in northeastern NJ. See the database on the website if you don't know the frequencies for all of these cities.
