• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Start with the Micro phone.. Is it wired up for transmit and receive..Any broken wires?

Any broken wires can effect the operation. TX, RX ,GND etc...

You need an Ohm meter for this test !

Is this one of the models that require the mic to be plugged in to Tx/Rx?
Also is it the correct mic? Does This model requires the one with the up/dn buttons and will a regular mic worth?
Things to consider.

Also suspect is the T/R switching diode (once had a partial failure of that after a lightning storm on one of my rigs).

looking at a pic of one on the web it looks like the newer Uniden / Cobra based chassis that uses the RX on the Mic.

The older GRE Japan Rigs ( earlier Radio Shack) Dont use the Rx on the Circuit.

Years ago all the Radio Shack Stuff was sub contracted to GRE in Japan Before they Broke out from GRE Japan
and became GRE USA and GRE China.

Thanks But still not Working.
Are you using a CB antenna ? Do you have a Watt Meter ? Your going to have to get more detailed then its not running for us.

Its not a put down nor making fun of you but your going to have to give some more detail.

There was another guy just on with his radio shack radio not working.., Read the forum we basically got the guy back on the air

talked him through trouble shooting the radio to find a broken Resistor. He saved some money and feels great because he fixed it himself .

That looks like a Uniden PC76Xl with a Radio Shack badge.

For one... you say "no transmit". When you key the mic does it make any change? DOes the TX/RX LED switch or not?

No receive.... if you put your ear RIGHT NEXT to the speaker...... do you hear anything... no matter how slight? Any hiss.... or rushing air noise? Hum? or is it flat out dead.... as if the speaker were not even wired up?

Also ....with no receive.... is the meter needle moving at all....active at all? Or is it "dead to the left"?

I HAVE to say it.... as I have not seen it mentioned....... is the CB/PA switch in CB? Even if it is..... wiggle it firmly. Does anything happen?

Do you have any kind of earphones/earbud that you can plug in to the EXT SPKR jack? See if the speaker or it's switching is dead.

Just another "test of any sign of life"....put the headphone in the PA jack, switch to PA and key the mic.... does your voice come through the headphones (as in.... the PA function works)?
