Trend Micro strikes again. This morning I turned on my Dell Windows 7 (64 bit) laptop running Trend Micro Internet Security 2013 and tried to open the EZScan software to make a few changes. . The program was unresponsive for a long time loading the scanlists and after a considerable time finally opened. It was however sluggish in doing anything at all. I turned on my Toshiba Windows 8 Laptop and discovered the same behavior.
Both computers had been used to update the library yesterday and had worked fine. Since the only commonality was the Trend Micro software I disabled it and the EZScan software instantly started functioning completely normally on both computers so the most recent update by Trend Micro seems to cause the EZScan program to have an issue. You just have to remember to re-enable the Trend Micro when you are done. Alternately I suppose you can create an exception for the EZScan program but I have not tried that yet.
Note: another windows 7 computer running Microsoft Security essentials ran the EZScan program just fine.
This is the second issue that I have had with Trend Micro and EZScan so maybe it’s time to explore other Internet Security Suite options.

I have had my issues with various IS packages. Many similiar to what you describe.

The latest one I have, and HAVE had, and tolerated, for more than 1 year is bitdefender, which seems to work well, is highly rated, and does NOT interefere with software very much, if at all. It also seems that bitdefender, unlike symantec, has very low computing overhead, symantec being the benchmark for high, rediculous, overhead.

I will say, with Win500, bitdefender DID force me to add the executable(s) to an exception list, otherwise it thought it was malware. Opened Bitdefender, Navigated to the WIn500 install folder, and a mouse-click later, I was in buisiness with zero issues since.

Not the first time I have heard of IS software causing a lot of molasses in the machine with software....

Just my $0.05

Trend Micro

Why not use Microsoft Security Essentials? It causes far fewer problem, the ten family computers I maintain have not had any virus/malware problems, and it is free for home use. It updates automatically and protects just like the $$$ packages.
