Our society these days just can't help itself, apparently. #RIPDiscretion
You're right on that brother, we did a lot of work, especially on DSD, on this system and used a lot of discretion and it wasn't easy but anybody who wanted to listen we did everything we could to help them to do so. Overall it was a good run for five years.

Sorry to sound curious but there is a backstory to the encryption? I kept seeing you guys kept saying about the "one thing" that happened and I was very confused lol maybe it is just me.

Thanks, Bob. Appreciate the stern feedback from you and the others. This was definitely a dumb-ass move on my part. It was more about curiousity about the feature on the receiver--I do not intend to pursue this any further.

Sorry for the confusion but let's see if we can clear this up so we can dispose of any further discussion about it. The ASPCA doesn't take kindly to beating a dead horse.

We are forbidden here to talk about the combination of one of the services radio reference offers its members in relation to Police Department's deciding to go encrypted specifically citing that service.

I worked in Trenton for a long time as a newspaper reporter/ photographer all the way back to Trenton being on UHF in the clear in the mid-80s. They went to digital in 2000 and we could no longer hear them on scanners but the mayor and the police department gave both papers in Trenton Motorola Police radios so we could monitor the police... THEY cited First Amendment rights.

In 2015 they went to the nxdn system in the clear. In off the Record private conversations with individuals who will not be revealed here it was made understood that serious hobbyist, First Responders in surrounding areas and media types who purchased the equipment and programed their radios to listen with good intentions wasn't a big issue. Other methods of listening that didn't require buying a radio or much effort at all would result in throwing the switch.

Although this is widely denied in some circles and not worth getting into a debate about many in LE have the same sentiments around the country including the county I live in, Bucks County PA. encryption has increased in my County also but is being kept in check by the Board of Supervisors. It is used at the discretion of police but restored in the clear when the event is over. There has been an increase in the availability to listen to Bucks County sans a scanner. There has also been an increase in the use of encryption. It's getting kind of severe including all of last night.

This is a private forum, they have rules, they have services that they offer to the members, it's not worth the effort or aggravation of getting into it any further. They have a right to make a living just like anybody else, it is their business.

I hope this clears up any confusion you might have because I really don't want to get into it any more than this.

Let's stick to the guidelines of the Forum that we are guests of.

There you go, well said, didn't mean to come off as stern, just clearly understood. I see you live in Hamilton, I worked at The Trentonian a long long time, don't know how long you lived in Hamilton but just think of every big news story going all the way back to the mid 80s and I was there LOL.

Many favorites but one of the best was the illegal gambling casino in the Baron Social Club LOL oh, you know the one that the district attorney used to go and hang out at LOL. I loved to do the undercover work. Those were the heydays.

Enjoy the Forum... Bob.

Sounds pretty interesting. I don't recall that story...but then I haven't been in this area as long as you, and I haven't picked up a newspaper in more than 10 years! I used to dabble in photography myself as a teenager--yearbook, etc. when it was mostly B&W from my own darkroom.

As far as the forum goes, I think it would be better if I kept my mouth shut. I always underestimate the volatility of the responses one gets on radio-oriented forums.

Yeah well this is the premier privately owned Radio oriented forum and it's pretty well heavily moderated in accordance with management.

Think about what you say when you say it. If you can contribute to a specific thread on a specific topic don't hesitate to speak up, people will always answer up and try to help you, If you have any questions, you've got great people here to help.
