Might want to do a little searching of the VHF hi band to see if the base has moved over to a trunking system.

So practise went well today, busy channels were TOWER 128.700 until the reigns were handed over to AIRBOSS on 127.950 at which point 99% of comms went thru there. Snowbirds were busy on 272.1 and even heard them debrief some manoeuvres over the radio. Brief comms heard on 125.250 unknown source. Enjoy

I was reading the web site for the show on June 25-26 and they say aircraft transceivers prohibited but personal electronics allowed, I sent an email asking about receive only scanners and was told No, (politely). No scanners allowed inside the fence line. Since they state they may be searching bags etc I didn't want any one caught making an innocent mistake. Just an FYI.

Strange I also emailed them a while ago, and the Wing PAO told me if this is simply like a radio to listen local coverage of the airshow, that shouldn't be a problem. She asked me the model and had the security staff advised on its safety fo use and never heard of them since.

I’ve got a ICOM IC-R10 and a good old RadioShack PRO-60 for portable short range monitoring.

Just confirmed with them this morning:
Hello, only personal electronics such as cell phones are permitted on site. Any other transmitting or scanning devices are prohibited.

Don't even try to hide it. They searched everything. Empty yours pockets then metal detector while the other search your bag.

Don't forget this is an active military base. Security during such events tend to be more and more strict every year which very understandable. It sucks big time not being able to bring a simple scanner (I had mine confiscated last year in Bagotville) but i think this is today's reality I guess.

Well it's over..... Was great to have another airshow on the base, now to see if it met expectations and if they talk of another down the road. Fingers crossed

All this talk about big security. We walked right in without wristbands around 1pm on Saturday. Right thru the gates. No body was even paying attention.

I departed the displays to view the flying from my truck box and they weren't searching anyone... Just waving them thru. When I entered at 10 I had to remove all items that were metal and get the metal detector ran over us. 2 hours later it was a free for all entering. Having said that the line grew to be about a three hour wait it was so large. I assume due to heat and volume they waived the searches. Oh well. Just glad they had a show, the organizers are not likely the same ones from years ago so there is no doubt a learning curve. All in all they did a great job.
