• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

HAHA! This is one of the funniest radio happenings I've ever heard!!

Rock Hill Rd! 3223 Rock Hill Rd!

Gold. Good job man.

OP, I recommend you contact your local amateur radio club (ham radio). They would LOVE to do a real fox hunt. Plus, they can contact the FCC for you.

Ham radio operators are not going to get involved in the chicken band as they have better things to do and certainly would never contact the FCC. at best the offender would get a letter from the FCC. what he did was expose him and now everyone knows who he is so just let it go and see what happens.

People are mean when they remain anonymous, when they are confronted, they tend to cower down like a dog.

Yep, just like the old ding bat that jay walked across the driving lane at the store today. He didn't bother looking for traffic, he just walked out in front of me, I slammed on brakes, he starts mumbling "pay attention to the pedestrian crosswalk".

So I looked at him and said "it's all your fault, *******". Poor chap didn't bother to retaliate. He knew I was on to him. And it was his fault....pedestrians might have the right of way, but that doesn't mean you can just dart out in the parking lot without looking first.

What??? There are a good many hams that like CB, myself included. It was a stepping stone for amateur radio in my life. I worked hard to obtain my ham license, studied the code (which you no longer need) and worked my way from Novice to Extra in a few shorts years.

I have never understood why hams, most of whom started out on CB, talk down about that hobby.

as they have better things to do....
That's funny, they build simple antennas and pat themselves on the back every time there is a big weather event or 5K run in the area.

True, but I would give them the information they need to contact them.

I managed a CB store in the late 70's early 80's and I've met and dealt with hundreds and hundreds of CBrs from mom and pop just wanting a radio for travel, to truckers to the hardest of hard core CBrs where their family is literally starving because they hocked everything to get that Browning Golden Eagle. The income range and IQ levels ranged from nearly none to very wealthy and brilliant.

A common and curious thing I noticed from meeting and dealing with all these CBrs is you put a microphone in front of them and their apparent IQ immediately drops about 50%. They take on a slight to moderate southern drawl, their voice gets kinda musical and they end every sentence with something they would never say in person or on the telephone.

It was always amazing to me to meet a very well to do and articulate gentleman in the store who has a radio problem, then after we finish fixing his antenna or whatever, in demonstrating his CB he immediately reverted to what sounded like a back woods character from the movie Deliverance. I'm not knocking CBrs, they have as much right to be on the air as anybody, but what's up with the personally change behind the microphone?

Edit: I just remembered one of my customers from the 70s was General Daniel "Chappie" James, the first African American to reach the level of 4-star General. I remember trying to talk him out of buying a Tram D201 in favor of something better while he very loudly and with lots of hand gesturing, demanded the Tram while in full uniform with half his chest covered in shiny and intimidating medals. But the same phenomenon plagued General James, this very well educated fighter pilot and high ranking General had the same problem as most CBrs. Put a CB microphone in front of him and you would think he was barefoot and chasing chickens on a southern farm. What is up with that?

Anyway to stay on topic, I know lots of ham who have and are willing to help DF an offending CBer just because its a challenge or something technical to do. Lots of hams practice direction finding or T hunting, mostly on 2m but the basics are similar. If you need to find an offensive CBer and you don't have the equipment or expertise to pull it off, there are probably lots of hams in your area that would love to take a crack at it just for fun.

Oh man....never in a million years would I think someone in the top brass tier of the Air Force would be into CB. Did he end up with the Tram D201? What radio were you trying to recommend to him that was better?

Last but not least....

Put a CB microphone in front of him and you would think he was barefoot and chasing chickens on a southern farm.

LOL...what did the general actually say?

Are you kidding? Didn't you know that President Gerald Ford had a "Big Stick" installed on the roof of the White House, just so his wife Betty could rag chew on the CB? She even used a "CB handle"!! (First Mama)!!! ;)

Definitely a job for a loop antenna.

If you ever watched "My Three Sons", there was an episode where they used one to track down a girl on CB

She was hot of course ;-)

Don't try to transmit on it however.... unless is is radically big, it wont work well at all.

Don't bother with the pin. IF you're really going to damage someones equipment, then cut it and strip the center conductor & shield and clip a 9volt battery with plus to center, ground to shield. .... No more FET's in the front end lol! But then I don't condone physical damage to anyones equipment mind you. 73, n9zas

A capacitor charged to several hundred vols works much better....
ok, but thats a bit overkill, guess what's easier to stick in your pocket? IF you feel the urge to do something stupid at least don't get caught with something that will raise questions, right? A cop may think that cap in your pocket could be a grenade, or at least a flash bang! 73, n9zas

When power is applied to the radio, the 9 volts dc is introduced directly to the field effect tr's in the front end of the radios receiver, causing it to become pretty deaf to anything other than another radio sitting next to it. Not that I would do this to anyone ...but its worked. 73, n9zas

I don't exactly consider the spouse of the president as "top brass", not anymore than I do the civilian spouses of military members who think they are high and mighty because their spouse is military. But to answer your question...

Yes, I was aware that former 1st lady Betty Ford was an avid CBer. I also read somewhere when Jimmy Cater took office, he had the CB gear removed.

I wasn't aware the antenna used on the white house was a bleed stick (ahem) I meant "big stick".

What brand of CB, and what model did Betty Ford use?

If "said" person is running a couple hundred watts or more, wouldn't cutting his coax damage is radio if he keys up?

I've always heard not to transmit without an antenna attached...?

I believe that she used a Cobra 2000, a Cobra 148, as well as few others! I think she also had a Super Scanner antenna.
