Greetings,

Will be taking a 4 day family vacation to the DC area in March, and will be bringing a PRO 96 or a BCD996T with me. Looking for input for targets to monitor. I'm mostly into Public Safety and see that DC has 2 P-25 systems, one UHF and one 800MHz. What else in and around the area should I program? I know Alexandria is nearby, but what else is there?

Thanks for any input or advice.

This is a very hard question because DC has so many departments operating in and around... it's almost like asking which cable channel should I watch. Anyway, the "biggies" are DC PD, DC FD, USPP (Park PD-conv) USCP (Capitol PD-conv), Metro Transit PD (bus and subway) for the city itself, and the surrounding immediate jurisdictions, Prince George's Co, MD (conv), Montgomery Co, MD, Alexandria City, VA, Arlington Co, VA, and Fairfax Co, VA. I didn't mention Secret Service, FBI, and DEA because they're mostly encrypted, and then you still have the little townships that run their own systems.

Have a safe trip,
Dewey

Mark, in the off case you are getting files from other sources to program your radios, the 400 Mhz DC police system is kinda unique in our area in that it requires 2 base/offsets to trunk correctly. This may not be reflected in any files you might have gotten elsewhere.

For Win96, see the bottom of this article

While we don't have anything similar for ARC996, we do have a similar JPEG for the setup utilizing ARC396 here (click on the blue text to view).

Other Uniden trunktracker software, such as Scan Control, should be very similar.

73s Mike

[edit] I debated putting the link for the DB page for DC here just so I could blow Mark's mind a little bit (hi); what they hey,
you can find it here That should give you some idea of what Dewey was talking about. And here's Dave Schoenberger's DC page, which may have a few things that hasn't reached the DB yet.

Thanks for the responses, the local areas other than DC are gonna be helpful for programming into a file.

Mike, I do see that base/offset for the UHF system. I don't have a file yet, but will ensure it gets programmed correctly. Much appreciation for the help.
