Trip to Western N Y state.

Hi. I am planning a trip to your part of the world tomorrow.
I took a look at the data base for the following agencies/systems.

We will be going to the Rodchester area, possibly as far as Syracuse. In order to listen to something other than the Yankees on the radio would any area listeners recommend me punching in the following conventional systems.
Thruway:
Division wide
District 3-Syracuse
District4- Buffalo

State Police:
Statewide
Troop A-Batavia
Troop E-Canandouygua (sp? sorry)

There isnt any law regarding scanner use in NYS is there?

Trip to WNYS

Just go to NF2G.com click on frequencies and the County you want. Monroe for Rochester area. etc. Yes, NY has a scanner law for mobile use. However, I've had one in my truck for 35 years no problem. Just turn it off if you get pulled over.

We drove along the Thruway on Sunday, and again on Monday.
I heard something close to the Buffalo area on Sunday but I heard nothing else?

As someone from the area might know, I put in Troop A and E.
Are these frequencies active? I mean, the Thruway is loaded with state troopers nailing people and incidentially, the person whom we were going to meet had to call your state troopers (long story).

Should I have put in the PL tone? My 246 sometimes doesnt jive with the PL tones.

P.S. Those thruway is in great shape roadwise, I gues those tolls (excesive taxes, lol) work to some good.

NYSP has a troop that just patrols the thruway, you will find them on 453.425/525 with everyone else and 458.525 (channel 5 car-car) they also are known to use 155.565 (NYSP Car-Car)

I am not familiar with the NYSP and went to the site NF2G.com
but didnt realize that the SP and thruway SP were different.
Would have been nice to know but there is always a next time,
