TIME: 8:00 P.M.
LOCATION: Colorado 25 just north of milepost 83. (Approximately 10 miles south of Pueblo, CO.) On 5-16-08 at approximately 5:40 A.M. Troopers responded to the northbound lanes of Colorado 25.
A blue 2004 Dodge Neon was traveling southbound on Colorado 25. The vehicle drifted off the left side and struck a delineator post and onto the center median. While in the median the Dodge rotated counter clockwise and struck another delineator post as it entered onto the northbound lanes of Colorado 25. The Dodge continued across both northbound lanes and struck a white
1999 Oldsmobile on the far east shoulder that was traveling northbound on Colorado 25. Both vehicles rotated clockwise after impact and went off the east side of the roadway. The Dodge came to rest on all wheels facing in a southwesterly direction. The Oldsmobile rolled 1/2 time onto its top and came to rest facing in a south easterly direction.
The restrained driver of the Dodge Neon has been identified as Maria O.
Ruiz, 26 of Ogden, UT. Ruiz sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene by the Pueblo County Coroner.
Within the Dodge Neon were four restrained passengers and all were from Oden UT.
Juan M. Garcia, 8 Garcia sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene by the Pueblo County Coroner.
Joshua I. Garcia, 7 Garcia sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene by the Pueblo County Coroner.
Skyler E. Ruiz, 8 mos. Ruiz sustained serious injuries and was transported to St. Mary Corwin of Pueblo, CO. and then later transported to Children's Hospital in Denver, CO.
Adali S. Garcia, 3 Garcia sustained serious injuries and was transported to St. Mary Corwin and then later transported to Children's Hospital.
All the passengers involved were the children of Maria Ruiz.
The restrained driver of the Oldsmobile has been identified as Patricia A.
Smith, 45 of Rye, CO. Smith sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Parkview Medical Center of Pueblo, CO.
Alcohol and drugs on the part of Garcia is unknown at this time pending toxicology reports.
Speed from both vehicles is currently under investigation, however driving while asleep may have contributed.
Next of kin have been notified.
