Trooper 7 was requested this morning on a serous auto accident in Calvert County Maryland. To make a long story short when trooper 7 was loaded up and just about to take off it shout down. The trooper then telling command that he could not fly and the ambulance had to transport to the local hospital. How does the trooper get fixed? Does someone come out to try to fix it? Never had this happen to us before.

A lot of the stuff that a helicopter pilot will suspend a flight for is actually not that serious a problem; it is the mere chance that something will go bad is enough to ground a flight. Likely whatever the problem is was simple enough for a mechanic to drive or fly to the scene, repair on the spot, and the Trooper is cleared to go. Also protocol may not allow them to fly a patient but might let them limp home to base instead, depending on the problem.

The warning systems in these helicopters are sophisticated enough that the warning itself may tell the mechanic enough information to make a diagnosis before even responding to the scene; "The light came on saying the wackamadoodle has failed; I'm bringing out a new wackamadoodle. It'll take an hour to swap out..."

The wind was real bad in Delaware today. Was it that conditions got too bad to go airborne? Delaware Trooper 2 cancelled a flight because of wind.
