Trooper in MVA

Rt 9 in area of Jefferson Elementary School, Jefferson County. Unit on scene advises that Trooper is trapped in vehicle. Air Care is in the air. Telephone communications to Jefferson County has been interrupted by the downed wires. LZ for helicopter will be North Jefferson Elementary School. (Note corrected name of location) Vehicle did roll over. Extricatication is complete. Note: Elapsed time of extracation was 6 minutes. LZ has changed, helo will land directly at the scene.

Line of Duty Death - WVSP Charles Town

A West Virginia state trooper died early Saturday morning after wrecking his cruiser during a police chase in Jefferson County.

A release from the WV State Police states that Trooper B.W. Linn was assisting another trooper in a foot chase in Kearneysville in Jefferson County after 11pm Friday night. Linn lost control of his cruiser, slid sideways across the road and rolled. The trooper was air lifted to a medical center in Winchester, Virginia and died shortly after midnight.

Trooper Linn is married with two young daughters. He had worked with the state police since 2005 in the Charles Town detachment.

The release from the State Police says the investigation continues in the crash.

this is very sad. I heard Berkeley Co. dispatched for mutual assist. I then heard the chopper en route to WMC. I won't go into details, but I told my girlfriend it sounded like he wasn't going to make it. I didn't know until now it was a trooper.

I went back through the audio I had recorded from last night. I don't usually monitor Jefferson Co., so I didn't get any of that. What I did have of WVSP was useless since I had made a few bad adjusts to some audio settings about 1 hour before this happened.

Trooper dies in crash responding to incident

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va.

A state trooper from Charles Town has died in an accident while on his way to a pursuit in Jefferson County.

First Sgt. Eric Burnett said Trooper B.W. Linn's cruiser lost control on westbound State Route 9 and went airborne at 11:24 p.m. Friday. The cruiser struck a utility pole and rolled several times.

Linn was pronounced dead early Saturday at a hospital in Winchester, Va.

Linn and two other troopers in separate cruisers were en route to assisting another trooper who was involved in a foot pursuit of a suspect in a convenience store robbery.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

I would not be very surprised if it was something mechanical with his vehicle. I've heard them numerous times complain about their cruisers.
