Units from Marion County and Harrison County and Texas DPS are currently underway in a manhunt for a suspect that shot and killed a DPS Trooper outside of Jefferson. The trooper was shot during a traffic stop 4 times at close range. Marion county S/O 155.6850 141.3PL

I know that teletypes went out about 10pm last night to all of east Texas. Harrison county S/O and Marshall PD units were in the county last night taking up normal patrols for the county and city of Jefferson. It has become a statewide search, as i heard this morning about 8am a statewide broadcast. Many other agencies were on the ground last night in marion county. Texas rangers were on scene, along with a DPS helo from Garland. The trooper had no time to react as the suspect opened fire on him before he could even get out of his car. They believe they have a suspect. The licensed owner of the vehicle is locked up the TDCJ system and were trying to figure out who he sold the car to before he got locked up. The search is spreading over to Louisiania also. Texas Rangers notified Shreveport PD.

The search is on for the man who shot and killed a state trooper in East Texas. The shooting happened just before 8:00pm Tuesday near Jefferson, on Farm-to-Market Road 1969.

So far no arrests have been made, but the Texas Rangers have alerted Shreveport Police to the suspect they're looking for, saying he may be headed their way.

37-year-old Brandon Robertson is white, 6'2", 250 pounds, with red hair and green eyes. He's believed to be driving a light blue 1997 Dodge Intrepid with Texas tags 039 LCG. Robertson is considered armed and extremely dangerous. If you think you see Robertson or the car, call police right away.

Louisiana State Police received a report around 6:00am that someone may have spotted the suspect's car on State Line Road FM 1999.

Authorities say Texas trooper Scott Burns, 39, had just pulled over a car when the driver got out with a 20-guage shotgun and started shooting. Witnesses rushed to the trooper and got help through the troopers radio.

Marion County District Attorney Bill Gleason said, "The witness who saw the gentleman firing said he was actually firing from the hip with the shotgun."

Gleason says Burns was hit as many as four times; at least one bullet hit Burns in the head. Also the camera DVD system was destroyed by gunfire.

"The officer didn't have time to do anything except stop," Gleason added. "He didn't have time to get out, grab a gun, unbuckle his seatbelt. Nothing." Authorities say a citizen used trooper burns own car radio to call for help, but by the time help arrived, it was too late.

Burns was with the Department of Public Safety for five years. He leaves behind a wife and a five-month-old baby.

Emotions are high as law enforcement officers investigate the death of one of their own as they mourn. Trooper Sylvia Jennings said, "It is tough. I get the call. I'm at home just like everybody else relaxing and get the call and it's like 'what?' Yes, it's tough, but it's something we work through."

Gleason says, "Everybody's responding in a group effort to nail this S.O.B."

As of late this morning, a Capital Murder Warrant has been issued by the Marion County Court for the Suspect Brandon Wayne Robertson, 37,white male, 6'2", 250 pounds, with red hair and green eyes

Robertson is a former law enforcement officer. Authorities said he worked for several East Texas law enforcement agencies, including Kilgore police, and has prior arrests for theft, weapons violations, and drug possession and delivery.

It is just mindboggling how a former cop could do such a thing. Not only steal and the other crimes but kill another police officer. In Texas, most cop-killers get the needle. Of course they will have their mandatory 15 years of waiting on the "Row".

I would also like to offer my condolences for Trooper James Burns and his family. May Robertson go down in a hail of gunfire during his apprehension. This of course would prevent a long and painful trial for Trooper Burn's and Robertson's families, and save us the Texas taxpayers millions of dollars. And it would save Robertson the pain of a senseless extended stay on the "heinous" and "cruel" "death row" so despised by the plethora of hanky stomping liberals, which unfortunately, populate our great state.

Very hard to think that a former cop could do such a thing. This area of Texas does have a very large drug problem around here. People do a lot of bad things when they get on that junk. No excuse for this kind of action though...and I hope he gets his justice very soon for it. They will catch him sooner or later. I know all NE Texas Law Enforcement including city, county, state and federal are working as one to find him and will not give up until they do.

Justice???

Justice? There is no justice anymore, only grief for victims. Why is it called the "Criminal Justice System" anyway? Why isn't it called the "Victim Justice System?" Criminals are slapped on the wrist and let go, seldom having to make restitution to the innocent people they deprive of their rights, dignity, property and in Trooper Burns's case; life. Robertson did the right thing, he brought closure to a lot of people and saved the taxpayers a bundle of money. Now if the state paid Trooper Burns's widow and kids the money they would have had to spend over the course of 15-20 years to defend Robertson's misserable, sorry butt from getting the needle, that would be justice!
