I own and love my BC796D. It receives fantastic but presently I've been having problems with the volume. I've had the same problems with my ham(cb converted)radio. The frost heaves and pot holes of Montreal can do quite a number on the human body, so you can imagine the pounding a piece of electronic equipment goes through. I took it back for repair and got this, "we know more then a stupid truck driver and you are wrong and it's all in your head" from Radio World. They made me feel insignificant. I know it's not the way I programed it because when the volume dropped in half I taped on the bottom of the case and the volume came right back. It happened again a couple days later and again tapping on the case remedied the problem. That's why I feel it's a crack in the circuit board or a bad solder connection. I literally had to verbally fight with the technician to get it sent to Uniden. They just didn't want to believe this could happen. Obviously they have never ridden in a truck in Montreal. Well we'll see who will have to apologise in 6-8 weeks. When it comes back they have lost a customer if no apologies are given. Has anyone else had problems like this with technicians?

You are not the only one who has received smarmy treatment.

Unfortunately, they can size you up pretty quickly when you utter your
first few words, and treat you accordingly.

Radio Amateur patrons are who pays the bills in that shop and you
may notice a difference in how they relate to technical or non-technically
adept customers.

If you are not going to spend $$$ then they are wasting their time.
Flash some cash and watch the attitude change.

They will probably lose you as a customer, but,I'll bet they aren't too
worried as they are one of the few suppliers for the GTA.

You can have more of an impact by telling your buddies your negative
experience, and hit Radioworld where it hurts, in the pocket book by losing more patrons.

There must be a huge market for this stuff seeing as there is so few shops... Maybe a little more competition would change their attitude towards customer service.

Best bet would have been to send it directly to Uniden's Canadian repair centre instead of dealing with RadioWorld.

Last time I checked it was Lectron Radio. I think they were out in the Peterborough area.

Have the tech at Lectron give it a going over without the hassle of dealing with a middleman.

I have always dealt with Durham Radio out in Whitby and haven't had any problems with them. I have heard lots of horror stories about Radioworld so I refuse to go there anymore.

If you are talking about radioworld on Steeles ave. I know what you mean by attitude. One day I went in there with my pro 96 and as most of you know I am not very electronically savvy but i showed my unit to the clerk while he was trying to sell a uniden product to some one and as polite as he tried to appear because I have released some cash in here he was very pissed off as I forced him to discuss the differences in the two scanners in front of a couple of customers. So, sometime we dumb truck drivers can get a good on in on them.

sorry about confusion...

the issue with the AOR was with radioworld on steeles. I've had only good experiences with Durham Radio, Universal Radio and Grove Radio. Highly recommend these stores and DEFINITELY NOT radio world. Cheers Frank.

radioworld service

When it comes to Uniden products they are the supplier in Canada (Texpro) a division of radioworld so why would they care if you went elsewhere.

They can treat hams poorly also, so don't feel your being treated diffently.

Atlantic Ham was very arrogant with its customers. Norham and Atlantic and Texpro joined together to cut the competion. Atlantic's owner still works at Norham as a part owner as far as I know but they at least keep him away from the customers.

When there's nobody else you deal with the devil dispite your principals and they know it.

I find they tend to treat hammies with more respect than your Joe-average customer. Still, there is attitude.

I'd recommend Durham for scanner/shortwave gear and Elkel in Quebec for ham.

Damn! I wish I had seen this topic sooner.

Radio world is brutal! To say the least. And yes, they think theres nothing wrong with any equipment they sell, it can only be the user.

I bought a Yeasu FT-897D ($2g's I spent that day on the radio and accessories). One week later I had receiver problems. To make a long story short they would not replace the radio even though it was within the exchange policy time frame. Customer service suggested it was my car that was the problem even though I tried the radio in two seperate vehicles. So, they said they would replace the main board under warranty. They had my new radio for over 3 MONTHS and they still didn't fix it!! I finally picked it up and refuse to do business with that company again.

A week bearly goes by were I don't hear some sort on negative comments about Radioworld on the the 2 metre repeaters.

Radioworld's new coperate slogan
"We got your money and you're not getting it back"

I'm on a role, I can't stop.

Arrogant employees...I went to the store with the intention of buying a portable handie. I had one little weasel sales kid behind the counter serve me and as soon as I asked to see one of the portables he placed his hands on his hips and said "Are you a licenced amateur radio operator". I guess I didn't 'look' like a ham operator

Don't get me started on the snobs at Radioworld.

Not only will they treat you like ****e if you're *NOT* a ham, their service all around is terrible.

I drive out to Whitby to Durham radio these days.... it's a big drive, but it's better than giving those idiots at Radioworld any of my money.

They're a-holes because they're a monopoly and know it very well.

I hate to say this but there is a real problem with Canadian retailers, both with attitude and with prices.

I drove over to RadioWorld (1.5 hour drive). Was ignored for quite a while, then not impressed with the treatment I got when they found I wanted something they did not have in stock. Tried to convince me I had to get on their wating list right away, and had no idea when I'd ever get the product.

I drove home, called Durham Radio, sounded very nice but had same story. No stock, no idea when they would get any, best to get on their wating list.

Clicked on www.scannersunlimited.com, phoned them and had radio next day.

What really smarted was that the the total cost; including overnight UPS(60$), Canadian conversion, Canadian tax it came to the sticker price at radio-world. If I had managed to get it from RadioWorld I would have paid 60$ more. 10$ more if it came from Durham Radio.

That just dosen't seem right somehow. No hastles, overnight delivery to door and costs less. I know unless something really changes I won't be buying Canadian again. :(

I bought my VX-7R at HRO in Virginia over the summer.. with conversion and everything I paid something like $150 less than at Radioworld.. and with a lot less attitude than RW.

"Radioworld... it's worth the drive to Durham!"

I bought my BC780XLT from Grove Enterprises because at the time it was almost $200 cheaper than buying locally.

And that's after taking into account dollar conversion, shipping and taxes!

For the most part I've been treated decently at RW. Though there is one condescending fellow I'd like to punch in the head someday.
