TRS and Open Mic, Not Good

Last nite while jumping around I copied a feed that had an open Mic. At first I was hearing what sounded like a action flick but garbled, after that it went to a Porn flick and it wasnt garbled. I imagine about right now this morning someone is called in on the carpet. As this was a county wide Public Safety TRS system. This went on for quite a while. Wouldnt want to be in someones shoes...............

It wasnt too long ago some FF lost their jobs over an issue like this, only it didnt go over the air..........

If their TRS was working properly, the radio ID would have been displayed on the dispatchers console. It shouldn't have taken but 10 seconds to query it and then land line them, or at least stun the radio.

Would of been more difficult to track, identify, and turn off if this happened on a conventional system.

The GOOD thing about open mic's is that you can hear some really cool things on hot calls that you normally wouldn't hear.

There was a barricade a while back with a crazed gunman threatening to kill police and the SAU was yelling at him over the bullhorn to surrender, and talking about his mother and such. I heard this and other cool stuff thanks to an open mic.

You also get to hear cops shouting commands on felony stops and fighting with screaming suspects now and then too, all thanks to an open mic.

Or the other end of the open mic- this happened about a month ago.

A medic with his portable on his belt was running code 3 to a hospital about 20 minutes away. He probably keyed for 7-8 minutes with nothing but the sirens audible (his partner was in the box) and a faint radio station in the background. Talk about annoying...

He apologized to the whole dept. when he got back in town and in service... "Medic 3 is 10-8, sorry about all the noise earlier fellas."

Do I have this right? Some officers were watching a porno film with their mikes "keyed"? What,
no video on the terminal? Bwahahahahahahaha! Maybe they were on a "fact-finding mission" to
build a case against a "perp". Keep your curtains closed....

Here with the Caddo 911 and Bossier City radio's, if someone has an "open mic", it takes the
dispatcher about 5 seconds to "call it". The units must hear several frequencies at once OR
"Base" has an over-ride feature, cause the offending unit, unkeys. ;-)

I've heard all kinds of crazy stuff due to open mics here in the Seattle area. It also drives me nuts as my scanner of course won't scan..

A while back before my county went to the new digital TRS, I heard an open mic on the main dispatch channel, there was someone yelling "DROP THE GUN" and then several gunshots. Since the dispatcher didn't know what unit it was, they had to stop all radio traffic and run through every officer on duty in the county and check their status. A few minutes later they figured out it was an officer at a training exercise that had accidentally keyed up his radio.
