True "BOAT ANCHOR" Radios -or- Weight Lifting Exercise Equipment for Radio Guys.

Okay, nostalgia radios are one thing, and we know many radios from the 40's, 50's or 60's could put a medicine ball to shame. In later years there were some radios that should NEVER have been given the title of "portable". I know many of you probably know of, or have one or two yourself. Some radios made the so-called "Ghetto Blasters" of the 1970's era seem small. So, post your recommendations for those monster radios that Godzilla would love or use.

I'll start it off with the Sony CRF-320...

Although I only had the guts of the radio, this was my first shortwave receiver in the mid 60s, around 12 years old.

Dad and uncle were ham operators, my uncle repaired televisions on the side but anyway, just the innards were huge on my desk, great dial exactly like this one.

The 200 ft of well grounded copper wire was a great antenna in those days without all of the interference and towers we have now. Logged many countries. So much fun.

And don't try to lift the power supply for some of these radios without a hand truck. You will be speaking a capella for awhile....

Those were great Receivers!

Part of my Boat Anchors many many years ago! (I had the SP600 also forget which version seems like it was the SP-600-JX-21A

I restored one of these back in the mid 1990's for my father when he was still alive, but it didn't look as good as this one.

Does this Grundig Satellit 800 Millennium model count? Mine is sitting on the corner of my desk. The six "D" batteries if used, add quite a bit to its weight.

This one I used in the military and liked it so well I got one of my own. Had it for several years and ended up trading it even up for a 12 tube DA Phantom 1200watt hot box
