I've been listening to my scanner since this morning (I live in Beachwood, Ocean County) and heard a couple odd things. First, I heard pager sounds (which sounded alot like Lacey's EMS pager sounds) on a trunked channel! It sounded like it was coming from a repeater and the message that followed it was some thing like, "This is a test, Testing 1, 2, 3". Does anyone know what this could be? Second, I heard what I think is APCO 25 on 508.162 MHz, does anyone know of any plans to go digital and can someone attach a sample of an APCO 25 transmission?

EDIT: I listened to some audio samples from some websites and it actually sounds like Motorola's Digital Voice Privacy Mode.

EDIT 2: I listened to a sound sample on a website and it is DES, the tone at the end confirms it.

If you noticed that there are EMS Zone talkgroups, maybe they are starting to switch the squads over to the trunked system now that the fire departments are almost done being switched over. for the repeater part it was probably on one of those Fire/EMS towers for that test since they don't have a UHF EMS dispatch frequency yet.

I shouldn't have said repeater, I don't know proper termonology. Anyway, you might be right, but it still did come from a trunked frequency. When I get my PRO-92 I'll be watching to see if it happens again.

Some of the frequencies originally listed as part of the trunked system are not. They are conventional frequencies used for the repeater towers, and fire dispatch. They are 508.1875 (dispatch), 506.7125 Lakewood/Tuckerton Repeater, 506.7375 Barnegat/New Egypt Repeater, and 506.7625 Toms River Repeater. If it is one of these frequencies, as elias1988 stated, it may have been testing. There has been no word of the county implementing a digital system or using encryption. I would definitely think that IF encryption were in the works, it would be for the Sheriff's Department and the Prosecutors Office, but as I said, haven't heard a thing.

It was on 506.612 MHz or 506.662 MHz.

AS OF THE LAST RADIO MEETING I ATTENDED THERE WERE NO PLANS TO BRING EMS UP ON THE TRUNK. THING MAY HAVE CHANGED SINCE I LEFT THE ASSOCIATION WHEN MY TERM WAS UP. I HAVE BEEN WATCHING THOSE TG'S CLOSELY TO SEE WHO IS USING THEM...AS I AM CURIOUS ALSO.... THERE WERE NEVER ANY PLANS FOR THE COUNTY TO GO DIGITAL, OR AT LEAST THAT WAS WHAT WERE TOLD...
