On Muskegon County Simulcast, Police Dispatch always uses an 800MHz frequency from their allocated trunked frequencies (listed Below). I've never seen it use any of the 700MHz voice channels, why is that? Also, Muskegon Fire Dispatch does the opposite and uses only 700MHz voice channels. I have a feeling it has to do with the fine print of the FCC licensing for the public safety bands they use...

Guess from over 1,000 miles away. Sub-band restrictions can limit TG's to certain frequencies.

I worked on a system where an agencies TG's had to be restricted to 800 only sites because they had older GE/Tyco/MaCom/whatever radios that didn't do 700.

Basically MPSCS allows for older radios listed above, as well as many Astro are still in use, that are 800 only. As for the 700 preference for fire, if all radios on a TG are 700 capable, the system will preference that over 800 to save 800 channels for TGs with 800 only radios to allow for maximum utilization, especially in high traffic times or areas.
