Can anyone tell me if when scanning a trunked system does the squelch automatically set itself? I know conventional systems squelch can be set.
If it can be set tell me what to do. I have a BCD996T.

You can change the squelch setting. I'm used to the 396t, and xt, but it should be the same... On the handheld it's Func. then press the "volume" knob down. Mine is usually set at 2.

I just remembered... On the older firmwares in the 996T it didn't show the settings. The newer f-ware shows it in the upper right corner.

(Edit: I just realized the 996 has a squelch knob....)

Trunked systems open the audio path based on other factors (in addition to squelch). You should adjust squelch to a reasonable level. If set too low, it can take extra time to acquire the control channel, and can also cause the scanner to "hang" on a voice channel if the end code is missed. If set too high, the scanner could return to the control channel in the middle of a voice call.
