Hey Folks, I am new here and honestly don't know a lot about scanners. I thought I saw a posting somewhere the the Police bands were going to be required to be trunked at the 1st of January 2013. I have an old RS Pro-96, it does digital trunking even though I don't know quite how to use it. I was wondering if I were to get another scanner would it have to be a digital trunking scanner, or would an analog trunking scanner work under the new rules if I am correct about them?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to RR. No, the only thing that is required in January is conversion to Narrow Band. In many cases, nothing will change except that bandwidth. This may affect the volume on any particular frequency on older scanners, but hardly noticeable. In some case, new frequencies will be added/changed, but will have nothing to do with trunking.

Welcome to Radio Reference.Like captclint said, the only thing changing is the narrowbanding requirement in 2013.And the only thing that would change would be sound quality on older scanners that can't do narrowbanding. The sound would be more lower I think.
