Maybe if we stop quoting everyone's comments and just refer to the post number we wouldn't have to scroll so much to make things magically appear thanks and we not allowed to talk about remote protocols because it's been answered 50million times, but I'd love to see it available.

Hello,

Remote Protocol support would be great.

Another major annoyance on the PSR-800 series of scanners is eliminating the TUNE mode feature of the PSR-500/PSR-600. TUNE mode makes it easy to tune to a frequency and dump the control channel, or use the IF Output output for digital decoding.

The workaround on the PSR-800 is unwieldy. You need to program a trunked system using the frequency of interest and scan on a bogus talkgroup that will never be active. This reduces the utility of having the CCDump/IF Output to useless when searching for new signals.

Lack of remote support and eliminating the TUNE mode were the major reasons I never considered Whistler/Radio Shack when upgrading my PSR-800.

Interestingly .. I was talking to one of my friends yesterday about just this thing. That is the one of the reasons that I do not use my Whistler scanners, cause there is no easy ability to just 'tune a frequency'. It is very handy to get data from a control channel like on the PSR500.

That is one reason why I will keep that scanner around. It just works .. and does it very very well.

Btw .. I use my Homepatrol more than any other scanner now as it does have the quick tune mode even if it is a bit dumb'd down compared to the PSR500.

Just out of curiosity, is the TRX-2 mobile also a detachable face radio? I ask because the wire coming out of the right side looks similar to a separation cable. I also don't see an antenna anywhere. The 1098 is remote mountable so it would not be totally out of the question that this one would be as well. Just curious! It's basically the same radio faceplate with different screen info. I'm basing my question / comments on this picture:

I got rid of the 21 posts concerning LSM.

Sorry if I deleted your reply to someone else, I was just trying to clean this up some.

Back to the TRX discussion...

My understanding is that it is the same "body" as the 1098 with some beefed up insides, coming with the DMR update and ready to accept the NXDN update (and maybe others?) in the future.

Trying to catch up on questions while at the airport.
Yes, the TRX-2 is also a detachable face radio.

But discussions about the color of the back of the radio, including 'hello kitty' references are encouraged. Yeah, let's just discuss the important stuff. Do you all work for Whistler? Over and out. I am done before I get banned.

The "important" stuff is this radio appears to have no LSM improvements, so complaining about over and over and over and over and over and over will do absolutely no good at all.

Contact Whistler directly, every day, multiple times a day if you want, to express your displeasure. They even have a Facebook page, go complain there.

Does anyone know if the "Tune" capability will return, even though it will not have it's own separate button?

Will we still be able to use the "old" PSR-500 style belt clip with the new style case, instead of the swivel one?

Actually that's what we have been asking for in the TRX series.

Back Colors

Interesting comments concerning the two new units from Whistler. Will wait awhile to read further comments before I decide to purchase or not purchase. I do have one question. Why does the back have different colors and why is this so important? Perhaps in my old age I am missing something.

As far as I can tell, It's just for novelty and self-expression, so people can adorn the unit in their own style, like getting a different shell/cover for a cell phone.

Many may regard this as a minor issue, but I am curious as to whether or not the charging/data connection on the TRX-1/2 units have been "upgraded from the "mini" USB to the (now) more common "micro" USB?

Maybe we need to lean on Wendy, Don, and Mike to get the protocol released so third parties can develop android and iOS apps? That sounds promising at least. .

Well the specs have been available for a Win500 client for a long time. Now finally there's an Android client, still nothing for IOS :(

I hope not. Hate the micro. Too fragile, hard to get the orientation correct without glasses and a flashlight (ok my eyes fault) the mini is awesome!
