How have you all been getting to the TRX-1 battery compartment?

With much difficulty!!! Seriously, best way I found was remove the antenna and pop out the bottom of scanner from case. It's not easy and you need to work at it. I'm not using the belt clip and that makes it easier.

To minimize repeating that process, I loaded the best rechargeable batteries I could find (Eneloop 2100nmh) so hopefully I don't have to open the back for a year or two. But I do like the case.

Wow! This case is harder in trying to get my case off my smart phone. LOL!

Hello,

I saw a post suggesting to take the insert plate out first and it makes it easier to remove the case to access the batteries.

The case is very nice. I will buy some of the Panasonic Eneloop batteries, so do they have to be 2100nmh?

I tried, but never could get the plate off. If I put the case back on, I'll just leave the plate off.

I use Eneloops in my Psr800, but I NEVER charge them in the scanner, use MH-C9000 charger. Don't have a Trx1 and hope that the next handheld they design will have a different design for any rubber wrap so you can easily swap batteries to charge them externally. As soon as I saw the Trx1 I thought that was going to be a problem.

The case IS very hard to take off. However, I LOVE IT! It does get a bit easier in time as I'm guessing it starts to stretch out a little the more you take it off. They picked the right material too, it doesn't smudge and keeps the grip even with damp hands, etc.

Wow in the Whistler forum about TRX-1 cases

Here is a small tip on the cases.

To remove the case, remove the plastic insert first. It will make it much easier to remove.
The case is a bit stiff at first but should become a bit more pliable as you use it.

I took off the antenna, belt clip and back plate, (took all of 5 seconds or so) then took off starting from the bottom and it came off easily for me (another 5 seconds or so).

Installation was the reverse of the above.

It probably goes without saying but I will say it anyway. Do not try to remove the protective boot from the antenna end first as A) it will not come off that way, and B) if you get the lip to roll up on the top of the scanner, it just makes it harder to get the bottom lip to roll off.

I find if you take off the antenna for safety, then turn and hold the scanner face down with the antenna connector on your right (I'm right handed), then put your right thumb through the rubber cover opening onto the serial # plate, then put your left thumb on the Whistler logo on the plastic insert, then with your left index and little fingers pull off the lower front edges of the rubber cover while pushing inward with your thumbs, the cover pops off very easily. It takes a bit of force but once you get the hang of it the process takes about 1 second.

I have been interested in the TRX-1. I have not seen one with the case, out of curiosity can the radio be used without the case so changing batteries can be done on the run. I too don't like to charge batteries in the radio and like the option of being able to swap out a set if needed.

Yep, you can use it without the case. It looks and feels like the previous models from GRE/Whistler.

But since it really doesn't take that long to put on and off, I'd rather have it on for that extra protection.

I am currently using the TRX-1 without the case, no problem. The TRX-1 and the PSR-800 seems to be the same size.
