I would lockout all the towers you aren't listening too otherwise you will miss a lot of conversations. But the TGs are fine. Over time you will learn what TGs are not interesting to you and either Skip or Lockout those. The way mine is set up is one scanlist has everything for when I travel, three scanlists have my three local towers (1 each) and other scanlists have more specialized TGs like Statewide Events, Disaster type TGs, Viper Feds, etc.

My main laptop is having issues with the USB, so I installed the EZ Prog on another laptop.

Per what you recommended above, I pulled up the following:

I am going through the map and adding the towers in the counties closest to me. Will this allow me to hear NCHP as well?

Attempted to download 3 Scanlists into the scanner, powered up the scanner, nothing to scan.

This is going to be complicated.....

Software froze.....now this scanner is a useless $460 brick.

Honestly, starting to regret this purchase altogether. HORRID software........

When I include 2 Scanlists in the same configuration, only the latter one copies over to the scanner.

I have to start a new configuration for each scanlist....this isn't making too much sense.

No you simply add to your configuration each time.

It really isn't complicated and I think you are over thinking or simply missing a step.

It's important to remember that there are a few particulars that have to be correct in order for your scanner to run smoothly. Go back over your programming using the step-by-step 'Nothing To Scan' checklist found here on the forums and take your time to make sure the corresponding boxes that need to be checked are checked. You'll find the culprit and correct it and your scanner will open up just like that. I always tell people patience and a pot of coffee. Above all, have fun with it!

Here is where I am at so far. I have 2 scan lists, however, after I format the SD, I only see one scan list, even though both are enabled. Not sure why.

2. When these scan lists do make it into the scanner, the name remains 'Scanlist001' even though I changed the name in the software.

Also very important to SAVE all you do and/or change BEFORE writing to the scanner from EZ Scan. Otherwise, you are spinning your wheels and your new configurations never make it to the radio.

Save the file, then write to scanner. Use the drop down menu on the overhead tool bar. I'm sorry, I no longer have EZ Scan on my comp, or my TRX-1, so I cannot go in and check on that. Maybe someone else can weigh in with further instructions.

Okay, lets start from scratch, create a new configuration and follow the steps as outlined in this PDF file. It even has pictures to guide you. PLEASE READ each step closely.

Hope this helps.

Called Whistler, they were actually very helpful.

They recommend I download "SD Memory Card formatter" from SD Association

I used this to format the card.

2. When selecting new configuration, I have to choose the CDAT default.

3. I then formatted the card again using the EZ software.

I got my first scanlist uploaded now. Hallelujah.

Now comes more fun adding more groups, but I think it should be smooth sailing from now.

Have ya tried building a frequency list in MS Excel or as a CSV file and manually importing??

The import via zip code is a joke

I have built a spreadsheet to edit & import into the software. A bit of work up front, but way easier after ya get it tweaked & working.

Best advice on programming is....

1 figure out who ya wanna listen to

2 name & set up scan lists

3 import into the scanlists

4 edit settings for each "object" or frequency

Having a spreadsheet allows me to copy & paste into it, edit Alpha Tags, se up light modes & assign scanlists. Then I can import to software, check it all out and then transfer CDAT folder to SD card in the radio.

There's alotta stuff to learn to make things easier. Good luck
