I changed my delay to 1.0 and the mode to Auto and it cleared up the long tail on my TRX-1.
Delay shouldn't have anything to do with squelch tails, if it isn't a very strange firmware bug. But "auto" could have everything to do with it as it then could use FM instead of a manually set NFM mode, depending of what the bandplan says in the firmware. NFM mode have less noise for the squelch to work with and will have less differencies between no carrier and carrier and it will be harder to set a squelch level where the squelch closes distinctly without a squelch tail and where it still opens on a weak signal. FM mode have a bigger difference between signal and noise and will work much better.

This is how it works in normal scanners and radios but Whistlers squelch function are reacting very strangly, possible due to some sort of patented way of handling squelch to be able to reach an acceptable scan rate.

Mine will also do better with a shorter delay but I want 2.0....If I do 0.8 the squelch tail is almost gone.
I also have better luck on the DPL channes than PL but its not much better
