After months of being unable to connect with anyone or obtain meaningful guidance, I have already eliminated the equipment I had and deleted my memberships in a local club and ARRL. I have been attempting to cancel my license altogether with the FCC. It simply makes no sense to continue something that would require such upgrades that will only aggrivate already hostile neighbors, whatever I visibly do. Over the months, I have lost interest in pursuing amateur radio altogether.

Bit the FCC's license managing system has taken an alarming turn. One of 2 things happens on that site. Either I find my license and hit "Cancel Licenses" in the menu and none of my data gets tranferred for deletion consistent with my FRN, or worse yet, I'm transferred to SOMEBODY ELSE'S FRN, showing licenses that don't apply to me at all, and thereupon I log out immediately. I've made several attempts at this only to get only 1 or the other.

I did submit a complaint ticket to the FCC concerning this alarming issue with the license manager. Of course, the ticket only goes to helping officials implement policies. But in the meantime, is there any other way to affect a cancellation of my license?

I for one can't say that I really understand what the problems you're having are, if you are in a club it certainly should have been very easy to make contacts with other members of the club. You didn't have to cancel your membership, just don't pay next year's dues and you'll be out of the club. I'm sure they didn't refund your dues.

If you are unable to transmit with your equipment without interfering with televisions of your neighbors, there are specific steps that can be taken to rectify that, now that you are a member here, you will find a lot of help with that and advice and guidance or you could just use Google and that would take you to threads and advice found here on radio reference.

Whatever the issues are where you need to flee the hobby and don't want to be involved with it, I respect your feelings and you have to do what you have to do. I'm surprised you're not a member here at radio reference prior to getting to this point.

To get to the problem with the FCC of trying to cancel your license, if I could respectfully ask, why bother? You have a license, it last 10 years, if you don't renew it, you won't have it anymore. What is the symbolic meaning of canceling your license? It's not a strike against you to hold a ham radio operators license, there is no negative stigmata. Just forget about it and let it expire.

You can do it over the website ULS or by sending a letter to the FCC directly. Include a copy of your amateur license and clearly state that you are canceling your own license. You can state why, but there is no need to.

Yes, you can just let the license expire, but you'll get/keep getting solicited by dealers and manufacturers of products you have no interest in.

It isn't that difficult to get another ticket if you decide to.

I just checked the FCC.gov/uls website and it takes me to every license/permit i have, except, my Amateur license when clicking on cancellation. When I check my Amateur license in records, it shows my Amateur license.

Try the mailed letter route.

your lisence will expire in ten years and come up for renewal, just dont renew it. there is nothing that says you need to use your ticket at all, but if you get a change of heart you will already have one and wont need to start all over, who knows someday that ticket may someday save your bacon like using a scanner in you vehicle when its illegal in that state.

Like others have pointed out, let it expire. It accomplishes nothing to cancel it.

Your old license data will still show up in the ULS Search, only difference being a status of "cancelled".

This is very indicative of a problem with amateur radio: a lack of true "elmering" on a local level. I hope someone local to the O/P will reach out and guide them. This sounds like the core of the issue., a lack of local support and mentoring. Too many of us "old farts" thumb our noses and new folks then wonder why the bands are devoid of meaningful conversations/content, local repeaters dead with silence or Bowelturd kerchunkers, but scoff when a new voice crackles through.

We are our own worst enemy.

O/P, don't give up. I am 3,000 miles away but feel to drop me a PM and I'll give you my phone number and I'd be glad to help step up.

I looked at your QRZ page - Its Blank..You sound angry Here at RR !

The FCC can issue you a liscense but its up to you to become A Ham!

Skip the ARRL and The Local Clubs whats in you to like the hobby.

FT8 Mode That DMR thing with the Modem or just racing out in the Backyard when the ISS

Goes over and make a contact even with a Crappy Baofeng Dual band. Thats Ham radio !

Have you ever tried to check into a net, or just join a group rag chew? I got started with public service events and storm spotting over 30 years ago and still volunteer with my local sheriff's department.

Commit a felony, that will get your radio license and many other annoying licenses you have cancelled pretty quickly. Seriously though, it is one of easiest licenses to get and renew why cancel it? Ever gotten a speeding ticket? It is amazing the number of lawyers who contact you within days of the event.
