Im currently in Jones county Texas. Am learning sdr. I have sdr trunk working , and decoding some p25. Radio reference site says 158.850 is the freq being used. But when i put that in, it doesnt say control on trunk program. I have currently 1 rtl-v3 . And recieved the m6 rattlesnake antennas for high frequency. And will be ordering my second v3 dongle this week. I am picking up conversations but have yet to find the control channel. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I was able to use Abilene TX control channel and see it connect. But they are in next county. Was hoping to find Jones county control freq.

Looking at Jones County in the database, frequency 158.85 is licensed as a conventional channel to Stamford, It;s listed as used for the PD as well as a talk-around frequency for the FD. It is not a trunked system; so, while you could hear conversations if tuned to that frequency, you won't see a control channel used.

You do have 4 trunked systems in your county that you might could monitor:
Abilene's system
American Electric Power
Big Country Electric Cooperative
and Oncor

The American Electric Power site in your county is using a P25 Phase II control channels which, for now, no scanners can handle. See the note on the system's page regarding that, as well as what programs (that you can use for your SDR) can handle that.

The Big Country Electric Power Cooperative system is a DMR Tier 3 system. No one, as yet, has identified any talkgroups in use & submitted those to the database for updating.

There are no other systems, in your county, licensed as trunked, but at times some of the business licenses listed as IG may actually be used as a trunked system, though not licensed as such. Several here in my area fit that pattern.

Thank you for your response. I am trying to learn this SDR trunk program. and it says its capable of doing p25 phase 2. Time will tell if i can figure it out. lol I have installed SDRangel , airspy , and sdr++ hopefully this will keep me busy. Again thanks for your input. It is pretty fun to mess with.

Abilene is a P25 Phase II system, so that might be a good guinea pig. All but one of the identified talkgroups are Phase II. It's an active system, and I suspect, pretty busy at times.

Both the Oncor & AEP (American Electric Power( systems are also Phase II. But, except in cases where they have a large response for storm damage repair, they might not be busy enough for you to quickly see what works, & what does not.

There is also a forum for using the SDR dongles and their software. You might take a lookk at it:
