Trying to input frequencies Oakland County Sys I Trunking

Any help I can get here will be greatly appreciated.

I entered the primary and secondary control channels for the Oakland County Sys 1 (Motorola 800 II) into a bank on my Pro-2051.

Do I need to add anything more than this?? My community is Rochester Hills which has dispatch, car-to-car, surveilance, etc. Do I need to convert & add the Dec / Hex from the database on this site into some sort of frequency number (?) and then how do I enter these (if the answer is yes) into the scanner?

More specifically, if, I do need all these additional converted frequencies, do I need to lead zero's then put the period delimitor or lead with the main 85X then the balance of the converted numbers?

Yes, a newbie, but dying to get scanning.

When I get into the programming depths of the Pro-2051, it, in a sense, asks for additional info the manual does not address. Probably a place to input private group ID's, I input probably 20+ talk group ID's but not sure I was in the correct mode for doing so.

I did program talk group ID's into or under a trunking frequency, but not sure if I am truely trunking. Does the master frequency (or which ever one your select) matter?? :?

When I get to the point of entering talk group numbers, (I hope I am entering what the scanner is looking for) the next thing that shows prog9, or CC, or something else if I keep toggling the "up" button. How the heck does one know what to answer or is it asking me for a list ID that will allow a 10 ID input???

My wife hase given me the OK to get a scanner that will last more than a couple of years given the digital migration for Oakland County and beyond. This is huge since she is looking for a new stove/oven.

I know I look hopeless in many a sense, but if I do not get help here, I'm sort of done.....

To be honest, even though your PRO-2051 is a new model, it was not a good choice, for the following reasons:

It will not work with any of the new "Digital" modes that just about everyone in Michigan is switching to.
It is not upgradeable (the the best of my knowledge), to the new FCC rebanding that is being implemented nation wide. RR has a forum on rebanding if you're not familiar with it.

Oakland County in particular, is attempting to implement a unique system called OpenSky, from MA/COM. They're encountering numerous problems, so the change over has been delayed until October 1st, 2005. When, and if that occurs, no scanners currently avaliable to consumers, will be able to monitor them! Not even the current state-of-the-art digital scanners.

As for programming the current Oakland County system in your PRO-2051. I no longer have my PRO-2051, but I looked at a manual on-line, and the instructions for this function start on page 46. They're a little intimidating for beginers, but it's all pretty much there. You don't need to program Talk Groups to begin listening to them. The scanner will receive everything, instead of particular Talk Groupls you select. Later, you can try programming the Talk Groups, or perhaps someone here, with a PRO-2051 can assist. There is a lot to listen to in Oakland County that is not on the Counties Trunked system! Click on the link below:

I hate to say it, but you might want to consider returning that scanner for a refund, if you still can. I think Radio Shack gives you 30-days. As time goes on, it will be rendered pretty much useless for Oakland County. Or, you could continue using it now, and hope to sell it later, but I think the lack of "Digital", and the new rebanding, will drastically shorten it's useful life span.

I wished I could be of more help, and I hate to be telling you all this bad news, but as I stated in this message, I'm just being honest, rather than telling you what you want to hear.

I don't know about the PRO 2051 but I have OAKLAND 1 system in my BC796, with just the 4 control freqs.

It figures that when I get the opportunity to update the equipment that the primary area I want to monitor will be off limits eventually.

Slao thanks for the feedback on the control channel vs. talk group ID's. I dod manage to inout control group ID's, but I think the manual leaves a lot to be desired at the point you actually have to enter them.

If I press the up/down arrow keys, I got Pro9, and several other things on the display as I pushed the up button. What was not clear was this the point to add talk group ID's.

I went ahead and entered them - I guess they are working, not sure.

The trunking overall seems to work nocely as I get for more transmission than I do on my older Uniden.

Oakland County will never get their MA/Com system working. It is STILL messed up.
