My DSDPlus (FastLane) folder is almost 40 gb in size. The CC.log file is almost 10 gb by itself, and the VC.log file is 1.5 gb. In addition, there is a folder called "VC-Record" which contains over 400 folders, and each of these folders contains a couple thousand .wav files.

If I have no need for saving .wav files, can I safely delete these without affecting the operation of the programs? What other files can I delete without affecting the operation of the program? Of course I want to keep my radios, groups, id's, frequencies, etc. But I have no need to save .wav files.

All this is mainly because it takes a very long time to backup a 40 gb folder.

If you don't want the recordings, you can delete them. I do so periodically.

*.wav
*.srt
*.log
any vc-record folders

So any file with these extensions can be safely deleted without affecting the operation of the programs?

As long as you dont care about keeping log or wav files, absolutely. In fact, you can stop DSDPlus fro even generating logs by modifying your bat files to not create the .log files. And you can even modify it so that it doesn't create the wav files if you want.

But deleting any wav/srt/log files is not going to affect any configuration / function of DSDPlus.

The recordings and logs will repopulate and grow over time, so periodically you will need to delete them - if you don't modify your config.

What script to eliminate the recordings? in commandline. I never even listen to the recordings which get to be really large.

No script. Use your head. And take personal responsibility for everything you delete. If somebody gave you a script to you, and then you used it and deleted your whole DSDPlus folder by accident (or your whole C drive), you'd be blaming it on us.

Some things you gotta do yourself.

Use -O NUL to indicate no output recording (won't record to DSDPlus.wav) and if you don't use -P it won't record per-call files either.

Thanks; I will try this. I have never listened to or utilized .wav files since I first used DSDPlus. They just make the DSDPlus folder bloated and backing it up takes forever.

EDIT: Just by deleting the CC.log, VC.log, and all .wav files, I reduced the DSDPlus folder from almost 40 gb to 1.88 gb!

What I do is instead of recording .wav files, record .mp3 files...

Use this argument.

" -Pmp3 "

Instead of:

"-wav"

Logs and the "VC-Record" directory can simply be deleted to no negative effect. DSD+ will just recreate the logs and folder. Delete them without DSD+ running, of course. Then DSD+ will commence recording mp3 files, which are MUCH smaller than uncompressed .wav.

Use only 1 chevron > instead of 2 >> for your log files. Using 2 will append to your logs and they will keep growing indefinitely everytime you run DSD+. Using only 1 > will delete all the old rows from your previous sessions and only save the rows from your current / last session.

So use this:

>CC.log
>VC.log

Instead of this:

>>CC.log
>>VC.log

But again, this'll delete all your old stuff if you don't mind deleting it.

A followup question:
I have a lot of files in my DSD+ folder with .IQ and .FM extensions. They appear to not have been modified recently. What are these, and can I safely delete them?

raw FMP recordings, safe to get rid of. If you need to record a file, be sure to have DSDPlus Event Log be the active window before you hit "r" or use the menu to start a recording.

The program records files... if you ask it to!
If you don't ask it to.... it will not!
If you tell it not to... then it won't!

The notes txt explains all....

All choices are your choices.
