TTC to stike at midnight tonight?
Union rejected the contract.

Hearing some chatter that people who were suppose to work till early morning are going to be off at midnight

Coincidence?

Numerous police calls for TTC drivers getting threatened and harassed/yelled at.

TTC frequencies burning up.. some drivers have no idea whats going on.. others say they are going to leave there buses where they are..

This was posted in the proper area Canadian forum (where people would know what it was) but the mod decided to move it =(

I think I'll have to agree that moving this here wasn't the right call.

But I would disagree with you if you think most Newfies or Vancourverites have any idea what the TTC is.

Yeah, I forget that it's a specifically Eastern Canadia forum, not all Canadia.

Anything else going on there? Any incidents heard on the scanner?

Sounds like an interesting situation, actually.

Oh, well, if they strike, supervisors will most likely run the system and get the overtime the strikers want in increased pay. Then after the numbers are crunched, probably covering a strike of about 6 weeks, the salary increase for the strikers will be approved by management, the union leaders will declare victory, and after the new contract begins, the (unpaid while on strike) workers will feel good, go back to work, and never figure out that they did not get a pay raise, just their old pay was just put in escrow and is now being paid out at the higher rate over the length of the new contract.

Yes, a win-win situation for "all" (not really except for the supervisors who were paid OT), except the riders.

TTC is on strike now.. everything is stopped other then wheel-trans for disabled people going to surgery etc.

Last night was interesting with riots almost breaking out when they started closing at midnight. Police were called in to handle the upset, and some drunken crowds who got downtown via transit were expecting to get home via transit.

A few windows were broken, walls and bus shelters spray painted.

6 weeks noo way not in Toronto... last time we had a 2 day strike (during the weekdays) and the city crippled. Over a million people on the roads.. highways were jammed.

update - "Premier Dalton McGuinty signed the order in council this morning clearing the way for an emergency session of the Legislature tomorrow.
MPPs will convene at Queen's Park at 1:30 pm Sunday to debate back to work legislation"
