I see alot of trains on the tracks next to the I-10 and I-8 between Tucson and Phoenix and I was wondering if anyone could answer some questions?

How about I just ask the questions? Is there a train to train channel? When a train is stopped and waiting for another train to pass on the next track what is this called? Why do I see trains stopped before the crossing and the crossing arms are down and functioning and a train will just appear to be waiting for 3-5 mins before it proceeds? Do engineers or conductors ever use FRS or GMRS or MURS or HAM to communicate with eachother without the company knowing? Is there 1 or 2 specific channels that are always in use?

The road channel there should be 161.55mhz.

You'll hear the UP-Omaha dispatcher as well as the train-to-train conversation, and other railroad personnel.

I have it on now and I am waiting to hear... something...

Try these out too...

160.23mhz - Is a quasi-road channel, as well as used for depot activity
160.32mhz - Covers from about Casa Grande area to the west of the state heading to CA
160.365mhz - Is used by the Tucson Terminal Car Department. It may poss be used by the Phoenix terminal too
160.785mhz - Is used by the Phoenix subdivision and the Nogales subdivision
