Have'nt been hearing them lately on the VHF "flight"freqs.They were'nt cut in the recent closing proposals were they?

Can't say why you haven't heard them , but they wern't cut in the latest round of BRAC cutbacks (in fact they gain), which hasn't gone into effect yet, anyway. Here is the final report, which is still subject to Presidential and Congressional approval. Here is the BRAC website.

About a dozen or so aircraft and support crewmembers departed on May 19th for a 45 day deployment to Southwest Asia. They returned on July 1st according to KTUL. The links below will take you to these two stories. My guess is that they are enjoying some well deserved time off with their families. It has been fairly quiet at the airport since the unit deployed, with an occasional pair of F-16's taking off. Up until that time it was quite noisy with what I assume was increased training activity before their deployment.
