Monitoring Tulsa 800 12/12 around 23:00 -
Last night the cops were watching cell phone stores for break-ins. There were two attempted break-ins on S. Peoria. They tried to pry the back doors open but failed. Officers were watching all the cell phone stores on the south side of town. They thought they were hitting them from North to South starting around 41st and Peoria.

While this was going on the FD got a call on an apartment fire that was odd. The caller hung up. About 3 minutes later the same cell phone called back in and reported a car fire at a different location. FD responded to both calls and while they were out the fire house was burgled. Darn shame!

Heard the story on krmg this morning.

(Tulsa, OK) -- A Tulsa fire station is broken into during a false alarm.
Firefighters at 48th and South Peoria last night were called to a false apartment fire.
While they were gone, burglars entered the fire station and took cell phones, billfolds, and a fireman's pickup.
Police believe the burglars entered the fire station through an unlocked door.

Yeah it's BS like this that gives scanner listeners a bad name! What pieces of s..t whould do such a thing to a fire department of all things. I do have to say that is creative but lower then s..t on my foot. I hope they find these swine and prosecute them to the fullist extent of the law!

hopefully someone around there has a security camera aimed in the general direction of the fire station or someone comes forward with information.. It amazes me how no one ever sees anything! I would print everything in that station.. man that pisses me offf!

Don't they have someone assigned to the station, that stays there? I mean it sounds like they could have someone assigned to the house to monitor the radio and phones while the crew is on out on a run for just that purpose. That person can also keep an eye on things while the crew is out also. It serves a dual purpose.

How do you know that the Burglars had a Scanner?

I knew someone was going to say that! Because everyone around here is scanner happy and just a little common sense and it's just a hunch. I don't if they did or not but it wouldn't surprise me if they did.

I heard on the 900 KOTV news TPD has 2 vehicle discriptions; surely someone was driving through Brookside at 11PM and saw them.

I wouldn't be suprised either.

BTW, there is a good sushi bar down the street from Station-18 I discovered today, "Fuji'" @ 3800 S Peoria Ave (try the Unakyu rolls ;)).

Yeah since it was a cellphone they could have just as easily been sitting across the street and watched the engine and crew leave for the fire runs.

Yes but with a scanner they would know when the company would be returning therefore they could leave without incident.

all it takes is a look out at that location(s) to phone them saying hey they're headed back get out. It's even easier now days with the walkie talkie features in phones.

I bet very few burglars use scanners with even the most basic trunked systems. Too complex. Your run of the mill midnight burglars are not very intelligent.

I've had several cases of the fire runs before. Rough stuff.

In the old days (25 years ago or more) the rookie would be left to answer the phone and work any radio requests the fire company had. Nowadays those responsibilities rest with a central communications center.

No point in paying a trained firefighter to stay home...and most firefighters (and cops) make lousy dispatchers. The personality traits and skill sets to be successful in the field are much different from those needed in the comm center - and its pretty rare to find someone who can do both well.
