Tulsa Police uniform division name changes

effective january 1st UDN will be known as Gilcrease division, UDE will be the Mingo Valley division and UDS will be called the riverside division.

c2b, do you know if there will be any changes in radio designation or channel numbers? In other words, will "7A" still be "7A," etc.?

As far as I know, only the Division names will be changing. All designators, beats, radio talk groups will remain the same.

Frankly, I'm surprised they didn't rename them the Mickey Division, Donald Division, and Goofy Division. I guess they had an argument over which one deserved to be the Goofy division the most.

Maybe in a few years they'll change it again to the Larry Division, Curly Division, and Moe Division.

My wife made the observation that the new names don't make as much sense. I tried to explain, "UDSW is located on the 'Riverside.' UDE is located in the middle of the 'Mingo Valley,' and UDN is located ... hmmm. I see your point."

As seen in this TPD assignment sheet from the 1930s, the north beat was just called the "Negro Section." That would might make more sense with the new naming concept.

amazing how time flies, and how politically correct weve become. negro division being said on tv radio or printed in the newspaper today would result in a riot, naacp aclu visits as well as al sharpton and jesse jackson visiting and hell im sure johnny cochran would rise from the dead to file suit also!!
