• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Check out this page: CB Radio SWR Meters

I have no experience with this company but they appear to have quality stuff. Also check the Radio Shack site. Google/Bing search for "SWR meters".

I don't understand why you'd want to do that.. Wilson make high quality antennas.... the only thing you might need to do is to trim the antenna in order to to get it to resonate properly for your vehicle.

Whats the lowest I should go on a HWR meter?

Perfect resonance is 1:1 (no power reflected back to the radio). That's what you should go for. Acceptable would be 1.5:1 or less.

I just saw a short video on SWR meters. Used a Workman meter. The man referred to the "F W D" "Reference" settings. Shows this guy doesn't know everything. The settings mean "Forward" and "Reflected". Forward is the power output; reflected is the power returning to the radio (you want as little as possible, as I said before, preferably none).

Hope that helps.

GO to the library! :) Look for a book called "Antenna anthology" published by the ARRL.
Then take two aspirin and call me in the morning!

Oh boy such answers to such a simple question even if the OP typed HWR instead of SWR, maybe his waves are horizontal instead of standing. In any case you don't need big bux for a fancy schmancy meter when any old cheepo HF meter will do, all you're trying to do is get the least reflected power as practical, the exact numbers are fairly unimportant unless they're in the red zone.

As for a 1:1 ratio, such is impossible without supercooling and that requires a constant flow of liquid nitrogen. Yeah I'm being facetious, there is always some reflected power even if it is too low for the meter to read. Maybe that's why the (incorrect) answer is sometimes "tune for 1:1"?
