Name here is Sean, WB4UR

Rig is a Yaesu FT-757 GX II and using an MFJ 245-E Tuner.

Antenna is an HF5B / Butternut on a mast 30 Ft up on Rohn Tower.

Having a time tuning to get a low SWR when using SSB - mainly Upper Sideband.

What Frequency and Mode is recommended to tune up on. (I hear CW or AM)

The Inductor is labeled A - L.

I have had the HF5B since 2005.

Whenever I tune for the lowest SWR and think that the SWR is low, I key up on a vacant frequency and the SWR needle goes up at the same time. I have the tune button in the out position when I do this.

I would like a refresher instruction on tuning up on the bands, especially on 20m if I want to check into the net on 14.300 USB. Is there a video on YouTube that would steer me in the right direction?

Thank you :)

The Butternut should have a 200Khz bandwidth on 20M. Tuner should not be necessary. What is the SWR without the tuner?

You should tune/measure using AM or CW (key down) at low power. You cannot measure/tune on SSB - no carrier to measure.

Do you have a separate SWR meter or are you using the tuner?

I cannot find info on the tuner.

Checking that the antenna is working would be the first step.

You must tune with a carrier, cw or rtty mode. When you take off the top cover there is a switch to transmit on all received frequencies. On the back are switches that must be out or it will not transmit
