PSR-800: Turning Recording On

Kinda a noob question here. How to I turn the recording functionality on for the PSR-800? In the Object Edit menu I have the RECORD option checked for that object. When I get a hit on that channel I hear the channel, but see not recording activity and the playback remains empty.
