Hello,

I know the state police on the turpike use 159.225, as well as 159.03. Seems like most of the activity here is from the yellow emergency trucks.

I have a non-trunk tracking scanner and would like to monitor the Troop E state PD while traveling. What frequencies should I plug in to monitor the pike from Springfield to Boston ?

Do they share the air with the regular staties ?

Thanks for any help !

Troop E is migrating mostly over to the MSP trunk system. They have several talk groups already. In the Boston area, I think they exclusively use the 800Mhz system. You'll still hear some activity on 159.03, but more and more I hear them on the new system.

The good thing is that there are plenty of relatively cheap trunking scanners available that will work. Actually every trunking scanner made works with the Motorola system that they use.

I travel daily on the Pike between exits 8 and 11A and the majority (if not all) of the PD activity is on the trunked system, talkgroup 33456. As you head closer to Boston there are additional talk groups used.

OTOH, out in the Berkshires, all the MSP activity is still on 159.03 CTCSS 131.8.

I don't mind the change, as 159.225 was always getting hammered by Holyoke PD on adjacent 159.210, and I can get Burlington CT FD clearer now! (159.225 100.0)
