New install of the Pi image that includes TTD pre-installed, version 73f. Can send admin messages, but any text typed in the body of the admin doesn't shown up in the received messages, only the subject is received. When tones drop, TTD records and saves the mp3 and amr files, but it won't send them out to the folks on the receive list. The log file looks a little noisy, but the audio that is recorded and saved by TTD sounds fine. Help please! Log file attached

The error:
smtplib.SMTPDataError: (501, b'Syntax error - line too long')

It means the email server you are trying to send through is rejecting the message due to the length of the message.

This problem occurs if the e-mail activity that you sent has more than 998 continuous characters in the e-mail activity message body.

Thanks @xicarusx, for taking the time to reply & help me!

The only thing in the email body is the stock/default message "[d] Page Received at [t]". I haven't made any changes to the default subject or body sections. The longest department name is 19 characters, so I'm not sure why I would have this issue.

If I send an admin message, the message will go through, but anything typed in the body does not show up. The user only gets the subject text, nothing else. So it appears this behavior may be related. There's also another user having this same issue & they posted about it in the huge TTD thread. Not sure what else to do except try to reinstall the image and see if something got messed up during the initial install.

I have been having issue with version 73h with no having any body in messages even admin messages. Do you have another email provider you can try with? Your provider may be giving you the 501 error for the body being empty and only having an attachment/subject.

I can try using Gmail. I was running TTD (v 62 IIRC) on an old WinXP ThinClient through Gmail. I wanted to update, because I was suddenly getting delayed MMS message delivery, so I was moving everything/everyone over to a Pi 4 4GB. I have my own domain through ionos (1and1), so I was hoping that would help get rid of the delayed MMS. The delay was anywhere from an hour to over 24 hours, out of the blue.

It's been driving me crazy for over a week now, because everything works until it's time to send the messages out. I've got a directory full of perfectly recorded mp3 and amr files, but they just won't send.

Thanks again for the help!

I have had the same issues with MMS messaging too. Usually when they are delayed like that you are about to be filtered and the messages will no longer go through. So I have two email addresses on separate domains. One is my domain the other is gmail. I switch between them when one gets on the blacklist. Usually by the time the other gets blacklisted the other one is off the list.

@xicarusx ,

I switched over to a Gmail account and still have the same issue with admin emails, no text received in the body. I'll leave this setting for a while and see if any tones drop to see if the audio files are sent.

I will keep that in mind about being filtered/blacklisted. I started using TTD for my own dept. a few years back. Then added 3 more depts. in my County for friends. It's been working fine, except for having to remember to delete the old audio files about every 2 weeks. My ThinClient doesn't have much storage space and the TTD version I was using didn't auto delete old files. I had an extra Pi4, so I figured I'd just switch everyone over and be done in a couple of hours.... that was over a week ago and it's still not working... I like to play around with computers/Raspberry Pi, but still have a lot to learn on the Pi/Linux side. I did setup TeamViewer so I can make changes no matter where I'm at. That will help a ton, if I can ever get TTD running right.

Thanks again for the help!

Finally had a tone out for one of the depts. after switching over to a Gmail address.... and the audio file was sent. It still didn't send the dept. name & time in the body though, so I'm still not sure what's up with that.

The subject, but not the body, works when receiving the audio file as an email to Gmail. When receiving it as an MMS, I don't get the subject or body. I have some extra equipment, so may try a whole new setup with a Pi 3 and see if there's any difference.

I’m following this thread if I’m not mistaken with even a gmail account the file is not sent after the page has been recorded? I know OP was for some configurations, but noticed that this same problem plagued me with having issues of not getting the text for the call for sometimes hours after the call. After know some others running TTD, there has been an issue at Verizon blocking some of the messages from coming from the gmail server. From what I hear from a friend that told me he tried calling Verizon and got it unblocked. Unfortunately I’m running a multiple system for our fire department, with different carriers. I hit dead ends in this since our firefighters have different carriers. I have been told that push notifications maybe the way to go to get them with real time. That would require creating a sever to be able to host and then push them out to the cell phone from a sever.

You are correct regarding the issues with emails/texts. My county TTD system had about 500 subscribers when I discontinued emails/texts Jan. 1 of this year making the change to push notifications only. All the hassles are now gone. I use nearlyfreespeech.net to host my server files (probably at least 25 tone set decodes daily.) Getting the server set up can be a little tedious but once done, it just works. My server costs amount to just over $0.02/day.

I've just decided to create multiple email addresses to use (another user does/suggested this) such as xxxx1@gmail.com, xxxx2@gmail.com, etc. So when I start getting delayed texts again, which just happened last week, I can easily go into TTD and change to the next number. I'm too lazy to try to deal with multiple, but mainly Verizon, phone companies and having it unblocked. I've heard the block/delay goes away after a while, so I should only need 2-3 email addresses to send from.

@DC31 I need to set up push notifications and would like to learn more about what you’ve done. Can you get me started in the right direction?

Did you ever get anywhere with this? I have my files uploading, messages going out without issue but nothing in the body of the message.

What version are you using? The bug related to nothing being in the body should have been fixed in 73l.

Andy
Thanks @aaknitt. I did come across your comment regarding that issue while continuing to dig around after I posted. I upgraded versions today and that piece is working! Thank you for replying and for all you do.
