Searching the FCC database is the best method to finding the frequencies in your area.

Listening to them is quite impossible, they use digital encription now.
I have a friend who is an officer and he told me this information.
All you ever hear is static, even when they are talking.

Actually, the digital comms are not encrypted. The Uniden 785d and 796d do a fine job of monitoring TWRA. The repeater in the Chattanooga area, 159.240, is quite active. Mostly digital, some analog. When monitoring this frequency you will sometimes hear distant repeaters, so the signal is weak and the digital voice comms are broken up. The Unidens decode digital nicely and the audio quality is top notch.

They are there but are P25 digital so you will need a scanner that can decode that.

My pro-106 is working great,all dig.talk groups are clear, thp.etc.
Just have not heard any activity on twra.(could be slow due to cold weather) Thanks Art

If you are asking about the TWRA TGID on the TACN then no...I haven't heard anything on them since they were testing the radios out several months ago. Don't monitor conventional frequencies that often but when I do I rarely hear anything.

TWRA is divided into 4 districts across the state and use a P-25 conventional repeater system. Each region's repeaters have the same output NAC, but different input NAC's so as to only key up the repeater in that area.
The repeater output frequencies for each district are:
Dist 1 West TN 159.240 NAC 291
Dist 2 Middle TN Area 159.300 NAC 292
Dist 3 Cookeville Chattanooga area 159.240 NAC 293
Dist 4 East TN area 159.300 NAC 294
They are using TACN somewhat in East TN, but not completely across the state yet.

The end result of TACN is to be Phase ll. Some of the agencies using TACN, in conjunction with TVRS, are still analog, especially the volunteer fire departments. Some of the large City and County agencies are using radios that will not do phase ll and that is why it is simulcast and will be for a time. It really depends on the radios the particular agency is using to determine if they can do phase ll, THP and supervisors of different emergency agencies are using APX radios, the others are using XTS radios (there are still MTS 2000 radios in use in some Departments). More than likely mutual aid and disaster channels will not be phase ll for a long time, due to agencies outside of the TACN system that work with agencies within the TACN system have just purchased radios that will not do phase ll, since they have their own comms and are not a part of TACN

KA4BNI is correct, the two dispatch channels (159.240/151.235 and 159.300/151.445) are P25 but not normally encrypted. TWRA vehicles are now equipped with MDT's so much of the routine traffic (running boat registrations, etc.) is not done with voice. Additionally, as has been pointed out, this is a slow season for wildlife enforcement. Wait until boating season.
The TACN, of which TVR is a part of, is fully P25 Phase II (TDMA) compliant. It is using "friendship" mode so that Phase I (FDMA) radios can be used on the system. This will be the way of things for some time yes as radios are upgraded/switched out to TDMA compliant ones. TWRA is being issued radios that are Phase II compliant. ALL new radios on the system must be Phase II compliant. This does not mean that all users must use TDMA, just that they must be able to do so. Eventually, yes this will change to full TDMA, but this is still a few years off. The reason for TDMA? Simply it is much more efficient!
Friendship mode? That's a new one. I think you're looking for Dynamic Dual Mode.
Also supported on this system is:
Rainbow mode: statewide roaming access on each pot o' gold site.
Gumdrop subscriber packages: APX radios in neon pink & purple color cases
Oh, and don't forget the unicorn package upgrade which provides multiband antennas from 30 to 1300 MHz.
