I notice there was a new site updated to the system that was called Mobile Site. It has a range of 230 miles and includes my are in Harris County. I programmed it in and it does not show any signal. Anyone have any idea what this site will be used for?

Mobile sites are field deployable sites that have all the infrastructure in place to be switched on and become a trunk site in short order if say users are travelling to an area that does not have coverage. Generally you won't hear these unless you are close to the area it has been deployed to. Think floods, wildfires, major disasters, etc...

I've heard that some of these sites are called COWS (Cellular on Wheels), and are usually site specific, such as use at special events and the surrounding area, such as at the Super Bowl. They were used at the first Houston Super Bowl, and probably at the last. So, one would probably have to be nearby to hear them as stated in rattlerbb01's post.
