LOWELL, Mass. – Jan. 26, 2009 – Tyco Electronics Wireless Systems, a worldwide leader of critical radio communication systems, today announced that its P25IP (P25 to the power of IP) digital communications system has been successfully deployed in the City of Oakland, California. The implementation of the P25IP network is the first stage in the City’s migration to a P25-compliant digital radio communications system, which will support Oakland’s Police and Fire departments, and a number of other city agencies, including Oakland’s Unified School District. Oakland’s P25IP trunked system will also enable dependable, interoperable communications with first responders in Alameda County and Contra Costa County, and marks the first completely operational Land Mobile Radio (LMR) IP-based P25 trunked system in the Bay Area.

=======================================

It will be interesting to see if the Ma/Com system will be plagued with problems as the York Co(p-25) and Cumberland County Pa (OPEN SKY) systems are having.
Then there is New Yorks experience:

So, will a digital scanner be able to monitor this new system? What exactly is P25IP?
