If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello all,
I am trying to return my TYT MD-UV390 (believe it is the GPS version) back to stock configuration. I managed to put OpenRTX, but would like to go back.

I have tried installing the 3/13/2020 P18.16 and U18.16 binaries for the firmware commonly found on the internet, in addition to the earlier 10/14/2019 P18.11 and S18.11. All of these do nothing on my radio except leave it at the TYT splash screen. They are not installing themselves. I can download and upload a codeplug during all this, and the information looks correct, but the radio is unusable being on the splash screen.

Does anyone have any help in saving this from turning into a brick or a doorstop?

The radio was purchased in 2023 S/N 2309N00351

NOTE THIS IS NOT THE MD-390! It's a MD-UV390

Your problem may not be the firmware but the flash memory.
When you install alternative firmware, it changes the data in the flash memory.

In addition, OpenRTX cannot work because you also have to modify the hardware by soldering. So you installed OpenRTX for nothing.

Someone should make a copy of the flash memory of his MD UV390 and post it here and you will put the right flash memory back on yours. the flash memory is 16 MB and can be copied and rewritten with the OpenGD77 CPS.

But I don't know if you're going to find someone who will because you have to:

on the MD UV390 which will give its flash memory:
-install OpenGD77 on the MD UV390 with the OpengD77 CPS
-copy the 16MB flash memory with the OpengD77 CPS
-put back the original firmware

on your MD UV390:
-install OpenGD77 with the OpengD77 CPS
-rewrite the other user's 16 MB flash memory file with the OpengD77 CPS
-put back the original firmware

This is because the OpengD77 CPS only communicates with the OpenGD77 firmware.

Very true, it could be something up with the flash memory. Pewpew45 I did try your firmware but to no avail. It is good to know though that there is more up to date firmware versions out there than what's on the tyt website.

Until someone would be willing to share the flash memory, I may be up a creek. The point of installing OpenRTX was to see if the radio was a complete brick or not. I have no intention of actually using OpenRTX to do M16 digital stuff, but At least it will make the radio useful as a analog radio, which is what it will be anyways.

Hello, just out of curiosity have you seen OpenGD77? I'm new to DMR and I wanted to go to OpenGD77 but unfortunately I'm having problems with 3 different computers and getting USB drivers to work so I can backup files such as the FW you want. I've never seen OpenRTX and was just wondering why you didn't like it.
Thanks

Stupid question......when you say "install OpenGD77 on the MD UV390 with the OpenGD77 CPS" can you give me the step for this? I must be misunderstanding but I'm having problems getting USB drivers so I can backup my 390 GPS before going further with OpenGD77 but I wanted to understand what you are saying.....

I've seen it but I've not tried it. I'm not a huge DMR fan, but I'll consider putting it on if I can't get the flash memory sorted out. I would like to go to the original as I'm working on a commercial code plug before a order of radios comes in.

Code Plug.....something I need to learn and have some questions once I get the USB drivers to load....
