• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a TYT TH-7800, I set it up in my 2000 Jeep Wrangler and after I set it up and bought the RT software and cable it was easy to program. The problem I have is everyone told me I sound like I'm talking through a pillow. I changed the band to middle and also to narrow band. It still did not sound great. So I ordered a new TYT mike and guess what it was the same. Is there any mike out there that is compatible with this radio that would make it sound better? I hate to think that I wasted my money on this radio.

Maybe the Compander setting (#41)?

The only thing I can think of is maybe checking the audio "Compander" setting (menu 41). I can say that the audio on mine seems to sound fine.Hope you get it worked out.

For ham radio use you probably need to set the bandwith to the widest setting. Otherwise unless you are using narrowband repeaters setting it to narrow will give you lower transmit audio and make your problem worse.

Take the mic apart and see if there is an acoustic baffle or something like a small plastic disk between the mic element and the hole in the case. If there is, remove it and see if the audio improves.

For ham radio use turn the compander off unless you want even more complaints about poor audio. Companding only works properly when ALL radios in a system compress and expand the audio by the same amount. It isn't used on FM on ham radio. Most ham radios don't even have it.

I received the same complaints, so I replaced the mic with the MH-48 that's made for the Yaesu FT-2900R, and people have stopped complaining.
