Thank you for that. What does a compander do? I saw that in the menu but had no idea what it does.
Companding is the process of compressing the audio signal prior to transmission and expanding it after reception.
Combined with proper microphone technique, it can improve audio quality.

You will probably want to do some testing to get a feel for the best distance from the mic and the best voice level o that compandering yields the best results on your radio.

I understand but I also have Magnum 257 for SSB. I like the idea of being able to listen only on 10 meter on my 9800 though.

I did purchase a Diamond quad band antenna for my TYT 9800 and am trying to get good SWRs on all the bands. I read other posts saying they were able to get it done, hopefully I wall as well.

The diamond quads are good, but you wont get a really good vswr everywhere. By the way, as you have a handheld, which not put them both on the repeater you cannot access, and use both. You’ll get some desense, but if you put the handheld a way away, or give it to a friend who can walk away, you can access the repeater and your friend can say yes it worked or not.

I was able to get nearly flat SWRs on 2 meter and 440 and about 2.5 on 10m an 6m on a Workman with the second Diamond Quad Band Antenna on a magnetic mount. I had to replace the first one that was missing parts. I have an old Magnum 257 10 meter radio as well so I am good there. I wanted to get the 9800 for cross band so now I need to get that set up and working. I have a second TYT 9800D for a mobile unit and two 10 watt TIDRADIOs and am looking forward to figuring out how to make all work together.
