To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

While scanning in digital mode I get no audio when a dmr signal is found. I know for sure it's dmr because I'm also using my RTL SDR v3 with DSD+, and have no problem receiving audio. Even when I manually go to frequencies where I know dmr is being transmitted I'll see the green activity icon next to the frequency & the LED would glow/flicker green too....but no audio.

Monitor is enabled, so I do also see the blue monitor icon as well.

In Analog mode I get audio as expected, but not in digital mode.

Also occasionally a screen with the transmitter radio ID, frequency, etc.
would pop up, but when I select the monitor option it appears to call out to whoever is transmitting, but again I never receive any audio.

My limited experience in SDR hasn't helped a whole lot with adjusting to my 1st handheld. And most tutorials/guides that I've read don't address my specific questions

In order to have audio you need to have the correct Color Code, Slot and Contact. If you don't have them set right if won't pass the audio.

This radio has no promiscuous mode that will pass traffic with different settings then are programmed.

The frequency lists on RadioReference has all the necessary info I'd need, or no? When I tried to program the info for a local repeater it seemed as if information was missing from the lists, or maybe it's just listed or labeled differently than what the CPS software has fields for.

I really wish I could find a Maryland codeplug and just be done with it. At least I'd have a place to start/learn

Don't use Radio Reference. Use Repeaterbook.com - Home or Interstate DMR

I have a file that needs to be cleaned up, but within the next day or two should have a file for you.

Don't really know your general location, but guess you are somewhere in Baltimore. The closest repeater for DMR in Towson is down, but Jessup works well along with Bel Air and Havre De Grace.

Thanks!! I really appreciate the help! Yes I'm in Baltimore County (Windsor Mill/Milford Mill area), and that Towson repeater was my 1st attempt, but I don't think I had it set up correctly anyway...Thanks again!

While I wait on your file I'll give Jessup a shot using the links you provided

You most likely will be able to access the Jessup repeater.

When Towson comes back online you will have no trouble with it, as it covers the whole Baltimore Region very well. On my CS800 mobile radio can get Jessup even in Middle River.

If I don't have to go to work tomorrow can work on the file. With making deliveries have to wait and see if my company has us going in. I would rather just be at work, as I sat around here all day today. I need to clean up the file and take a bunch of stuff out of it that you will never use for the out of the area repeaters, but my file may be confusing with many of the repeaters being listed by callsign.

If you haven't already you need to get a ham radio DMR from the site linked below. The ID in the file that I am posting only has a 1 as a placeholder, but you need to enter the your 7 digit ID in that prior to uploading into the radio.

Ok, so now you can just listen with this radio and kurchunking any repeaters to see if it works.

Shouldn't be too hard for you to be able to pass the Technician test with taking online practice tests online prior to taking it. Once you keep getting into the 90%+ range on the practice test you will be ready to take it for real.

Yep, and I should have the whole day tomorrow to play around with things so I'll let you know how it goes.

I'm currently studying for the CompTIA A+ exams for pc repair. The technician test will definitely be next after these.

My comment should have said not to kerchunk repeaters, but left out not. Sorry for any confusion.

So I didn't get a chance to do much yesterday unfortunately, I'll have more time today.
I did notice when I loaded the .rdt in the "EditCP" software it displayed the following:

The following field values are invalid:

Contacts[Parrot Pri].Call Type: 10: invalid index

Scan Lists[Towson].Priority Channel 1: memberListIndex: invalid Value: Princeton

Scan Lists[Jessup].Priority Channel 1: memberListIndex: invalid Value: Princeton

Scan Lists[Bel Air].Priority Channel 1: memberListIndex: invalid Value: Princeton

Scan Lists[HvDeGc].Priority Channel 1: memberListIndex: invalid Value: Princeton

Scan Lists[Ashton].Priority Channel 1: memberListIndex: invalid Value: Princeton

Scan Lists[U Mar].Priority Channel 1: memberListIndex: invalid Value: Princeton

I have the same radio; analog audio worked fine; but digital was as you said, you can see the green lite lit and it seems to be rxing; but no audio. Make sure the speaker icon shows on the display, or you won't hear the audio.

You will hear audio if the contact is correct for the channel I never have to do anything on the radio to receive any DMR transmissions. You can see the green light up if it is a different talkgroup from the one are monitoring, but that is normal.

I will check the scan lists in the file tonight, as guess something is corrupted in it. The Princeton channel shouldn't be in any of those scanlists.

My radio that used with went missing somewhere from my work truck to my car a week or two ago. I can load this file into the MD9600 that use at home later to also check it.

Sorry to hear about your radio, I hope it turns up

I attached one of the screens that pop up occasionally while I'm scanning digital channels. Whenever I'd select monitor I still don't get anything. Sometimes they pop up and go away so fast I can't even select monitor. And if it's already set to monitor why do I have to select monitor when it picks up digital activity?
