Hi all - just got this unit and cabled up to my Yaesu FT450D, as I was looking to get started on some Digital modes (ft4/8,& wspr)

Running a MacBook Monterey 12.7 and WSJTX software.

The software searches for the unit (which is powered via usb cable), but throws up com port errors in the handshake among a few other things , which I can't recall (but I could post up the dialogue box next time I get to my radio). I went down the route of thinking it was a 'drivers' issue and tried to install drivers , but the ones you get directed to are in fact 'apps' or it appears to me to be as they mount up and installs another app called FLDIGI and it's 'running mate' flarq-4.3.9. I cant figure that out at all. then I hunt harder for driver and it gives me FTDIUSBserial dext vcp (virtual com port) and when trying to install I get this error message box.

Any pointers from those who have survived this cycle of pain would be much appreciated.

UPDATE - I got this working ok. For those who come after me with the same question, all I can say is it took ages and was a pain - just be sure to use the most up to date version of the software and try many different combinations of the hook up, and finally use the FT450 config NOT the fr450d one. No idea why, but that's how it is

I had similar issues setting up the U5 Link for ICOM box, though on a windows machine. These are my notes in case I need to do this again.

If you have a genuine FTDI chip, you can download the installation guide and drivers from the
FTDI Chip main website. FTDI is a Scottish-based company specializes in USB technology.

All you need is in the 'Virtual COM Port Drivers' section of VCP Drivers - FTDI

First download the installation guide for your OS: Installation Guides - FTDI
Then follow the instructions. On windows I installed the CDM (Combined Driver Model) drivers as an administrator and accepted the licence agreement.
When you connect the USB cable, you should now see a the virtual COM port appear in your Device Manager:

Hi MakerJem
I also bought the U5 link and was wondering how you connect the different signals. Did you use the data output ot the RS232 connector.
I want to connect it to a Kenwood TS450, but that TRCV doesn't have a CAT connector. Would be very helpfull if yo or anyone else could help me out. Thanks Roel Bolt The Netherlands

Sorry for delay Roel - I will try to answer precisely but it may take me until next weekend , I had to dismantle my set up at the end of November and from memory I cannot recall the exact routing.

I don't want to mislead you by guessing, so hope you can find the answer or hang on a while?

Does anybody know the pinout of the DATA connector of the U5 link interface? I can't find anything about this on the internet. That would help a lot.
Thanks
Roel.
