Hi all, I am looking at getting one, both for ham use and to listen to some services that are between 400-420Mhz. i have read in the other U82 thread that the radio is really sensitive in the ham band. I am more interested in what the sensitivity is on the extremem low end of the Uhf band. Thanks all for your thoughts.

Don't specifically know the U82. I have a Yaesu VX6 and like most Ham UHF radios that have expanded receive coverage they do very well in that range. A decent scanner might be cheaper, and you can dedicate it to monitoring.

unfortunalty at this time a decent scanner is not in the buget, down the road i would like to get a digital scanner as Alberta is getting a 700Mhz P25 network in a few years(fingers crossed. I would look at getting a dualband radio but i am not impressed by what is on the market. I am not that active on the ham stuff but i do want the ability to be able to transmitt in ham band.

I have two Icom U82 radios, but AFAIK there is nothing in the upper SC area to do a receive test on in the 400-430 mhz range. They seem to receive well in the 440-470 mhz range. Do you know what frequencies you want to listen to? I have an Icom F40GS-1 (400-430 mhz) that I used the front cover from (mic bad on another radio) you can have. No charger, antenna, or battery pack included, but these items can be had off of the internet cheaply.

PM if you are interested.

Bob
